Genuine restaurant in tourist area

Augustiner an der Frauenkirche is a very pleasant exception: good food, prompt, efficient and friendly service, and fair prices. This restaurant is one of my favorites in a high tourist area. It is well worth a visit for authentic German fare.

This is my favourite restaurant in Dresden, I have tasted the entire menu over the years, all very traditional German dishes. My favourite is the whole pork knuckle. menu in English and German. Nice selection of beers and a nice alcohol free wheat beer (you can't tell the difference apart from a lack of intoxication !!). Staff are generally very... More

Typical German dishes can be enjoyed together with excellent German beers close to a main attraction of Dresden! The prices are not cheap, but the quality is good to very good.

Having arrived in Dresden I was not hoping for much. Knowingthat in Dresden they offer sausages and meat balls I did realize it could be a struggle to try somehting else. What we got was reasonably good chicken breast and roast pork. The staff was caring and friendly.

I hate it when I fall prey to the occasional rip off. In Bavaria, when you want just half a beer (usually it's your last) you ask for a 'schnitt' which is usually about half a beer. OK a beer here costs 3,80 Euro. So a 'schnitt' should cost around 2, right? Wrong! At this trap it costs 3.20! This... More

On our first night in Dresden, staying in the square, we walked down three doors to the Augustiner. The Augustiner beer is one of the best in Germany ( the other is Andechs ) and the bierhaus was the usual traditional style in decor of wood paneling with a traditional German menu. Service was good and the sausages were excellent.... More

Really good homemade beer and nice main dishes portions. Expect to pay around 15euro to 20 per person. Decoration is also nice and they have a very big terrace.

It is good to see that the classic German cuisine still lives and that a tourist restaurant (in front of the Frauenkirche!) gives excellent food. This Augustiner restaurant is certainly not a tourist trap but a nice place to eat and to enjoy Bavarian Meatballs with potato cucumber salad and Fried Sausages with Sauerkraut. We started with a fresh white... More

I've dined in the Augustiner in Munich and knew what to expect, hearty German food washed down with weißbier, and that's exactly what was delivered. The schweineshaxe was excellent and enormous, the beer was great. Compared to Munich it's much smaller and is obviously not authentic to Dresden so it's orientated towards tourists. Nevertheless the food and beer were great... More
