I stopped at the Altmarktkeller Bierhaus for lunch and to rest my weary feet after visiting the Frauenkirche and before going on to shop in the Prager Strasse. This restaurant specializes in Saxon and Czech cuisine and beers. It is located in the Altmarkt, a few doors down from McDonald's, which... read more

Waited a year and half to return to the best food and beer! Dream of returning again. Great atmosphere and friendly service.

If you want warming and filling then this is the place to go. I had the beef strips (Rinderstreifen) and it was tender and delicious. Forced myself to eat a pudding to be polite (I think it was Quarkkeulchen) and that was also obviously home-cooked (no defrosted catering packs here) and lovely.

On March 31, 2010, my party of three dined in the cellar of Altmarkt Keller (Sachisische-Bohmische Bierhaus) on Altmarkt square. Cold, rainy weather meant that the outdoor beer garden was closed. The Old Town location is on the "main drag" between the train station and the baroque highlights one comes to Dresden to enjoy. Look for the McDonald's and you... More

We were looking forward to trying both Saxon and Czech dishes, and were served ordinary traditional German food that did not seem to differ at all from the typical Schnitzel dishes offered in other parts of Germany. Service was friendly and the portions were gigantic. The food arrived so fast to make me wonder if the meat had been sitting... More

The Altmarkt is a very short walk across the trolley tracks from the main tourist sites in Dresden -- the Frauenkirche, the Green Vault, etc. Although we could have eaten any type of world cuisine on Munzgasse, we wanted more German food. The Keller is great because it offers Czech and Sachsen food, including very tasty wines from Saxony! (Sadly,... More

We found the Altmarktkeller in Rick Steve's travel guide. It 's on a square that was totally torn up for reconstruction, so not as easy to find if the square was intact. This is a large beer hall in the basement (keller), but clean and modern. We had traditional bohemian (czech) food, it wa served quick, ample portions, and hot.... More
