Good German food, but slow service

This is a restaurant with history, a beautiful building. They serve mainly German dishes that are very good to have with a pint of local beer. One downside of our visit was that it proved almost impossible to get a waiter to come to the table.

Nicely located on one of Trier's main squares, the restaurant proved disappointing. My Zander, a fresh water fish, frequently found on menus in Austria and Germany, was not a filet as listed and tasted like it might have been a different fish altogether. The chicken in my wife's salad was overdone. Maybe the kitchen had an off night, but we... More

we fell into this place because almost as soon as we arrived the heavens opened and the rain came on ! It is such a shame because Trier itself looked really good but we were really unable to explore. This cafe is a real find. It is inexpensive. We had the Leek and Cheese Soup with ground meat -which although... More

Prompt service, delicious cakes and great prices. Lovely for a quick break while walking through the city center and beautiful surroundings.

We had dinner here late in September but it was warm enough that evening to sit outside to take in the view. The main square is gorgeous, painstakingly recreated after being devastated during WWII. The food was tasty. The service was fine and the price affordable for us budget travelers. Also appreciated the English menus.

In despite of many visits we to Trier, today been our first time in this restaurant. The owner of the Crocodile restaurant in Trier is currently taking care of Zur Steipe. We had a nice fish called Loup de Mer, was nicely presented with some pasta. The atmosphere was nice and the restaurant was full. The house wine is good... More

My husband and I happened upon this place while wondering around the main square looking for dinner. The prices looked reasonable so we decided to stay, and I'm glad we did! I had the pumpkin pesto pasta and my husband had the regular pesto pasta with turkey, we were both very happy with our choices. The beer and wine were... More

Location, location, location - the restaurant is on the hauptmarkt and serves very good German fare - the wife had a Strammer Max which is standard. I lucked into schweine medallions with pfefferrahmpfifferlinge sauce (pepper cream chanterelle) which was fantastic. If you are in the area checking out the market cross and fountain - stop by.

Trier is a very pleasant place with great architecture. Zur Steipe building is also good to look at. We needed a drink and popped in here. The selection of cakes was fantastic. We were met at the counter by a pleasant lady who after acknowledging my intro in German kindly switched to English to explain we select a cake and... More

I've lived in Germany for 14 years and this is by far the most unpleasant experience I have had at a German Restaurant- especially with plate prices in excess of 18 Euros. First, we entered and just stood there without a greeting as multiple employees walked past us. After standing there for some time, we finally decided to take seat... More
