Tasty German fare

Spent the day in Trier and wanted to have the local cuisine for lunch. Found through Trip advisor. Very popular pub like venue with seating inside and out. Mum (80) had dumplings with meat. Probably twice the size she needed, but ate the vast majority - thoroughly enjoying it. I had veal... read more

This lovely outdoor cafe is situated in the marketplace in Trier offering a good visual of all the activity in the marketplace, including strolling bands, produce stands, and shoppers. The menu offered a nice selection of appetizers, salads, entrees, and desserts. I enjoyed the pork tenderloin with french fries and a salad. The service was good, and our server was... More

In the centre of Trier, this restaurant sits amidst lots of characterless pavement cafes. From the outside, it looks like all the others. Go inside and everything changes. This is a traditional German restaurant with a pleasant garden to eat in. A friendly welcome with good service. Stews, dumplings and roast meats feature heavily. The food is delicious and nicely... We were in Trier for a shopping day, and had a rest in this typical German restaurant, which I found of an average quality. Definitely the portions are generous, and if you are starving that's the right place to fill. Decor is a bit old fashion, but service is nice. Prices in the average for such meal.

Visited Zum Domstein as part of our tour group. Welcome to Germany Meal. Private room for our group. Ambience was wonderful. Set menu was traditional German fare which was excellent. Serving staff were very pleasant. Many members of our group tried the tasting wines and we're pleased with the selection and pricing. Restaurant is centrally located in Trier.

I have been dining at the Zum Domstein on and off for 30 years. It has always been excellent and still is. It is always bustling and serves very substantial portions of authentic German food. This time, I had sauerkraut with speck , suusages and other garnish, washed down with wonderful Bitburger pils and followed with berry fruits and ice... More

This is a large restaurant serving good, typically German food. It's a bit impersonal mainly due to the size, but many of the tables are in nice "corners" making it feel a bit more cozy. We enjoyed the food and the "tasting wines" are good value at 6,30€ for 3 x 0,1l. Recommended as a place to eat in central... More

We'd eaten here on a couple of occasions on a previous visit and not been disappointed, so headed back again, this time with children in tow. The interior is old-fashioned and very much authentic German, as is the food. There is a good selection of different options, and also options for the children which varied from the normal 'Kinderschnitzel'. We... More

Its a big and busy restaurant on a day where the rain was pouring down outside! But the whole staff can handle it. The quality of the food was first class, and the serving personnel friendly and professional.
