This restaurant comes highly recommended and appears to be a popular gathering spot for locals. The wait staff was friendly and efficient, but we were there on a rainy day for lunch and huddled under umbrellas. It was crowded and uncomfortable. The food is standard German fare, though not as well-prepared or tasty as most other German meals we've eaten.... More

We ate as a group in the ancient cellar that has old Roman artifacts and remains of columns from the old structures used to stand here. The ambient was great, food tasty but well too salty to our taste buds.

During our walk through the historic center of Trier we came across this restaurant and decided to sit at their courtyard. We both enjoyed the local Trierer Spiessbraten (roasted pork) which were well priced. The staff was nice and helpful, and the courtyard offered seats in the sun and shade.

We had been on a walking tour of Trier's historic center. After walking over all those cobblestones, we needed a break. Six of us found shade and a welcome at the outdoor table of Zum Domstein. Our waiter spoke English and took good care of us. Each couple shared Apple Strudel served as usual with a small scoop of ice... More

One of us had a tropical, curry pineapple chicken dish in rice. The other had a ham and figs dish along with hone wine based on an ancient Roman recipe. Both of us were quite happy with our choices. You can go down to the cellar which is full of Roman artifacts and eat what the Romans ate 2000 years... More

We ate in this lovely looking pub overlooking the main square in town. Well priced for the position. We ate 2 mains (about 11€ each) and drunk the local lager (also well priced: €3.30 for a .4lt pint). Downs: we were given a menu and when we made out choices we were told they didn't do them (so why give... More

The place is warm and very nicely decorated. We especially enjoyed the windows with their clouded glass windows through which you can see the Dom maybe quite like they use to see it in Middle Ages from a similar tavern. The food is also a reminder of ancient times, being simple, in large quantity and really tasty. We ate here... More

We took the kids there for lunch and everyone came out happy! They have kids menus. They have English menus, too, so branch out and order something besides schnitzel or brats! I had the venison ragout and it tasted like a moist tender beef pot roast. More meat than I could eat. And the fruit sauce on the side was... More

After a second visit to this restaurant, I had to share my thoughts. The service is quick, competent, even friendly. The rooms are a bit dark but my eyes are glued to the dishes so... The wine menu is good and I have loved both the trocken white and red wines I have tried. The portions are enormous but one... More

Looking for a light evening meal we were delighted to try the fresh asparagus with Hollandaise sauce as a starter followed by the Wiener schnitzel that was perfectly cooked and flavoured. The pork steak in pepper sauce was equally good. Very generous portions sadly precluded a dessert! Service was most attentive (Micha) and helpful with selection. It does not pretend... More
