This is a nice place in the shadow of the Porta nigra. We ordered from the Kleinen hunger menu and found the portions large and very reasonably priced. This place was suggested by the Rick Steves Germany guide book.

Had dinner here the first night of our stay in Trier, as the title says, I had the wiener schnitzel, this is one of the most common dishes in Germany, but generally you get it made from pork instead of veal which is the original variation. Here it was veal, and very good veal at that. My wife had the... More

Can't go wrong here for a tasty reasonably priced dinner in a friendly and welcoming environment. We both had the Weiner schnitzel--huge portion, particularly as it came with fries and a salad. Interesting breads before dinner with special curry and other butters. Very nice. Waitstaff was very nice and attentive. We'd go again

I disliked nothing about this hotel an restaurant. Very happy and nice staf. There is not much of a lobby. Frontdesk is managed by same staf as restaurant, but there was no trouble with that. Unlike the hotel next door (Roemischer Keiser) ALL staff was forthcomming and serviceminded.

We walked by the windows and noticed that the dinners looked happy and the food looked good. We saw several people having Asparagus (Spargle) so we went in for lunch. Our server didn't speak English but a helpful dinner came to our rescue. The food was really good and the asparagus was wonderful. I had excellent Weinerschnitzel. We enjoyed our... More

We were visiting Trier on a cold, grey Sunday. Enjoyed the sights and needed a good lunch. Did not want fast food or sandwich. Found this place and it was fairly full, but they found us a table for two. They greeted us with a warm smile and a bread basket with assorted butters. I ordered marinated pork (because I... More

We have not been to Trier in a while so spent part of Nov 11 there. We have been dining at Zum Christophel since 1976, always dependable food and gracious service. Walking in at noon we were surprised by the renovation, new furniture, altered table arrangement, new menu. The server said it was renovated last March. The place looks good,... More

Seated immediately for lunch by very helpful and friendly staff. Lamb special and beef plates were absolutely delicious, soup starters rivaled the best places in SF, NY and NO. Simply a terrific experience for discriminating diner

My 7-year-old daughter and I toured Trier last weekend and were absolutely surprised by a terrible downpour. We wandered through town only to find all tdhe restaurants reserved (understandable on a Saturday evening). We tried to call a taxi but were told it would take a "while", anywhere up to 30 min., to get a cab. So we wandered into... More

If you're visiting Trier, the Porta Nigra is a must-see Roman monument. We weren't sure whether Zum Christophel - across the street with great views of the site - would be an overpriced and\or mediocre\touristy spot. However, the lovely outdoor setting, gorgeous weather and our hunger pangs resulted in a quick decision to check it out. Zum Christophel turned out... More
