Mainz is considered the wine-capital of Germany and there are some typical 'Weinstuben' to enjoy their local Rheinhessen wine, mainly white, but also some pleasant reds, together with more or less local specialities. All these Weinstuben are to be found in the charming old part of the town. As a solo traveller it is hard to get a table to... More

I wanted to experiment a traditional German Restaurant, at the hotel I was recommended to try Augustinerkeller, it couldn't be better, I got the idea that the restaurant is run by a family and the feeling is like if we're eating at somebody's house. The service is extremely friendly, although I don't speak German, and the lady that helped us... More

i really can't fault this place. the food, beer & service was outstanding. i had the special sauerbraten. the beef was very tender and with the red cabbage was outstanding. there is a great selection of beers on tap and wine as well. the service was attentive even though they were very busy. i will return for sure.

Our first evening in Mainz was spent in this lovely joint. As a frequent visitor to Germany was spent with some first timers who was introduced to its national cuisine. As it says in the title a lovely relaxed atmosphere with great food. Jäger Schnitzel all round I say!

Had a very good meal here. The food and service were above average, plus got to talk to one of their employees who was an ex-pat from the USA, The schnitzel was very good, and came with above average spatzel (forgive the spelling).

Nearly all the classic German dishes cooked well and for reasonable prices here. If hearty meat dishes are your thing, you will be well served here. Nothing particularly fancy or novel, but all prepared to a very decent standard, and the service is usually friendly and efficient. Decor is heavy, dark wood packed full of old 'Germanicana'. Not everyone's cup... More

Needed a quick stop for dinner but was not keen on a fast-food-eat-and-run kind of style. I have visited the Augustinkeller at least 3 times before and have not been disappointed. This quintissentially German restaurant gives one the authentic feel of being in a German pub. The furnishings and decor feature much of the Mainz area in the earlier periods.... More

Visited on a warm Saturday evening and was unable to sit outside but this did not mayer as the atmosphere inside was great. Fantastic service and even better food. Given how busy the restaurant was the service was fabulous. Will visit again before leaving Germany

We were directed here by a local who'd attended Mainz university. It's a nice cosy restaurant in the old town part of Mainz; so the walk to and from the place is part of the appeal. We had some Alsace style pizza, it was a nice change and very tasty.
