Good food in the restaurant, but it takes a long time to get your order through. Once you do get your order taken, the food arrives quick and is nice. During the summer season it is just the nicest place to have an outdoor diner

"Dampfe" in the north-west of the city of Essen is a famous local restaurant with an own brewery. They offer many different beers from own production and from all over the world. Meals are realy big and have a good price-performance-ratio. I was there three times with chinese colleagues and they were happy. I would recommend the spring- and summer... More

Went here on a trip to Spiel in Essen. I think it was the best pork knuckle that I have had in Germany coupled with some very good beer. Thoroughly recommend. Was quite busy on the Thursday evening I went so would probably recommend reservations at the weekend.

If you want a good place to have German pub style food then this is the place for you. Good busy atmosphere. The beer is excellent, you won't be disappointed with that. As the previous reviewer stated not much veg options, more a meat eaters place. This is my second trip and it won't be the last.

First of all, let me correct those reviewers babbling about the beer made on the premises of this place: This is not an active brewery and brewing has ceased long time ago. However, this is a very nicely decorated former brewery with lots of atmosphere and quite decent, typical German food and very good beers (the latter coming from Stauder,... More

This was probably my third visit here in the past five or six years. I come back because the food is authentic, tasty and a fair price. This time I had the schweinehaxe (ham hock) with sauerkraut and fried potatoes. The hock was deliciously meaty and tender. Both the sauerkraut and potatoes complemented the dish and all were even better... More

The restaurant in the old brewery has a very special atmosphere. Sometimes the restaurant offers live music. The menu is small but every months there are special meals offered. The staff is very friendly and even indicated if the meals will take more than 30 minutes to be ready. The drinks always come very quickly. The dessert is served in... More

We were there with customers and enjoyed the beer and food. The service was good. The brewery is typically german and a good choice for relaxed and informal business meals. It is also a good place for locals and tourist alike. The choice of self-made beers is good. The menu is typical for a brewery and in general all our... More

If you want your food portions BIG, your beer BIG but you bill to be small then you won't be disappointed here. The staff are super friendly, the food is typically German, they allow dogs and even the other guests are pleasant!. However, just watch out: the music is loud and tacky (but in my experience just added to the... More
