Visited on Saturday evening. Very busy. Could only buy a beer, no soft drinks so we had to leave. Rude staff! A smile wouldn't hurt!

We went on the basis of other reviews and weren't disappointed! I always like to research places away from the tourist crowds - often you only have to go a relatively short distance to find the right place. It was noisy and crowded when we arrived, but we found a couple of seats on a long, shared table and settled... More

We had the schnitzel. Very tough and thick. Not sure it was veal. When I asked waitress if she could tell me the specials in English, she said no. Virtually no one else in the place.

Local eatery with extensive, excellent menu. Fresh, tasty green salads; traditional himmel und aad (blood sausage on mashed potatoes with apples and fried onions) and jagerschnitzel (pork schnitzel with mushroom gravy and frites were delicious (very large portions). Fun watching the serving of Kolsch beer - small narrow glasses are used because it doesn't stay fresh long once poured -... More

I was looking for a nice and typical place in Cologne to eat well and drink the famous kölsch beer; after looking in Tripadvisor I ended up at Max Stark and I wasn't dissapointed! The place was indeed crowded on a wednesday night, mainly by locals who were enjoying their kölsch beers with a large choice of local dishes. The... More

Great food. Disappointed that they took advantage of myself and my family because in America we tip servers above the total bill. This is good to do in Germany but not expected. We gave a little bit extra but one of the max stark employees stopped us at the door and told us to give him more money for a... More

Very nice authentic place with very good and fast service. Great atmosphere with lots of locals and the whole space is loud with laughter. Very good rustic german food and the kölsch tastes very fresh. The prices are very affordable, great value.

Very typical German place just a couple of blocks from the rail station. Best kotelett in town (with fries and onions) and very good Kolsch. A must.
