Great Food, Average Service

Small cute restaurant near to our apartment when we were staying in Berlin. The food smells as I entered on a cold snowy day were amazing and the food satisfied in every way. Its always a good sign to see the chefs hand preparing the food as you look into the kitchen. The crisp gnocchi with... read more

A simple place, with a simple menu, but fantastic tasting food. The menu is one of a few seasonal ingredients, recycled in different ways to produce dishes that are well flavoured and put together. The kitchen is open and tiny, no doubt explaining the small larder. It makes for a small menu, but check the specials. Lots of vegetarian options... More

Solid, fresh Italian food in a hip environment. Make a reservation, this is a popular spot and waits can be long. All we tried was delicious.

This Italian restaurant is not quite Italian but some sort of a classic among the small Mitte restaurants in the area. Hence also quite popular and often full, so it is worth while to book in advance. The food is not really worth the effort to be honest - the pasta dishes have decent sauces, but their taste is not... Looking for a tiny Italian cafe that serves exquisite Italian food on a wonderful side street in the the hip Mitte neighborhood. Simple, classic Italian dishes with a twist are their specialty. Don't miss the famous pasta with figs.

Wanted to find somewhere close to where we were staying and stumbled across Mädchenitaliener. The staff were attentive and although no seating inside gave us blankets to make it more comfortable. The framaggio starter was amazing and loved the truffle pasta. My friends had the pork cheek and plates were emptied. Great wine and there was no rush to leave... More

This place has a small choice, but the pasta served is really tasteful. Small wine selection, however with choices from 20-something to 80something Euros per bottle. Highly busy, visited by a young, hip crowd. Reservation recommended.

Obviously high rated restauraunt in all kind of web-portals. The in - or in german "Hip-Restaurant". Nicely situated in "Bertin Mitte" with a nice surrounding. Visited by nice guests, which is an already good reason to go there. Food is comparable to company canteen, which is ok but not overwhelming.

On arrival in Berlin, we went in search of dinner. As we walked by Madchenitaliener, we were drawn in by the amazing looking food being delivered to the outdoor tables. We were lucky enough to get a (section of) table and quickly ordered a serve of antipasto and a serve of pasta each. The main meals were great, both in... More

This is a very good Italian restaurant on the Mitte/Prenzlauer Berg border. Food is of high quality, made from fresh seasonal and interesting ingredients and served on iittala dishes (for those in the know). Despite it not being the cheapest in town, it presents good value for money and Italian food lovers would not regret coming here (dinner booking is... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
