Our meal was as good as we'd been led to hope from other reviews, innovative Sicilian cooking with very good house wine. We had the aubergine salad with roast pecorino, strikingly good. I then had the dorada (bream) while my wife had the black pasta with octopus. Both were excellent. On that basis a five-star mark would have been entirely... More

Sicilian finest food in Berlin with a touch of high cousine. All with a great service. Local products are mixed to top Sicilian products with a little Asian influence resulting in a great mediterranean dining experience, not even easy to find in Sicily. A must!

We had the house rosé and they told us it was a new wine not on the menu. We noticed all of the other tables had another type of rosé than us. The wine was very bad and not at all worth the price we paid. The food was tasty and they were very accommodating with food allergies, but in... More

For our last night in Berlin we wanted to go to a restaurant that was a bit special and Gruenfisch certainly met our expectations. The restaurant is beautifully lit and the Vietnamese lady who owns the restaurant was wonderfully attentive throughout the evening, ably assisted by her Sicilian husband. The meals are distinctive, original and full of flavour - this... More

I have been once here, three months ago, lovely local... Last week i came back with my parents for celebrating fathers birthday. I couldn't be better. The owner recognized me again and it was perfect. My father took the meat menu, me and my mother the fish menu with the wonderful Adenzia Bianco and for the Creme brulee with ginger... More

Superb food. Wonderful service. Nice atmosphere. Enjoyable wine selection. The restaurant appears to be owned by a couple who themselves do the serving and preparation. A treat.

Ate here last night with a party of 8. The food was excellent, we all had different starters and main courses, with everyone giving a big thumbs up. The food looks and tastes fantastic, the bread basket came with moorish butter flavoured with honey, herbs and balsamic vinegar. The service was friendly and attentive. When we are next in Berlin... We found Gruenfisch via Foursquare recommendations and went there last night as a speciat treat for my birthday. The bread basket was amazing in itself, served with a balsamic butter - sounds weird, tastes divine! For starter we shared a Sicilian Eggplant Sweet & Sour salad with roasted Pecorino - such a great combination of flavours. Followed this with: I... More

Staying in Kreuzberg

Neighborhood Profile
Kreuzberg
Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighborhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and 60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and 90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighborhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.
