Amazing experience of German wines and food

We visited this restaurant on the first night of our trip to Berlin after seeing a review about it in the Guardian. We were visiting from Ireland. Our waiter was very welcoming, spoke perfect English and took us through the food and wine menu with great knowledge and enthusiasm. We sampled the best... read more

2 of 5 stars Reviewed April 16, 2015 NEW

5 years ago we visited the upstairs michelin star restaurant (see my other review on Rutz) and this time we tried the downstairs wine-bar, which also serves food. The place looks a bit like a hotel restaurant of any downtown hotel, but the menu is more centred around traditional German dishes. What we tried was certainly good but not so... More

Came on an early Saturday evening and tables were all reserved, but they were able to seat us at a small bar table by the wine cooler. The server was great in explaining the menu, how the food is prepared and giving recommendations. We got an assortment of appetizers and I got some slow-braised goat as a entree and everything... Being a starred Michelin restaurant, without a menu a la carte, we went there for the experience. We were seated at a table for 4, set for 2, a bit impersonal. We trusted everything, including the wine choice. We are not sommeliers, but we expressed a preference in a couple of wine choices that we didn't prefer, but that was... More

We had a wonderful meal in this stylish restaurant. You can choose from four, six, eight of ten courses, all prepared with great detail and designed to provide the best tasting experience.

six of us ate in the winebar, which seemed quite quiet for a Friday night, however this suited our needs as we had a baby along and the space available to us in the pleasant dining room was welcome. Our waiter was friendly and spoke perfect English. He recommended a range of starters and explained the specials of the day.... More

We went to this place after reading some reviews on here. We arrived without a booking and were greeted with a smile. The waiter took our jackets, seated us and offered water straight away. Being from Australia and not speaking German he swiftly grabbed us English menus and explained the philosophy of the restaurant. We ordered 2 entrees and as... More

Went to this restaurant on the recommendation of a friend. Wow! Food is delicious and service is excellent. Everyone is very friendly there and I had a truly memorable meal in Berlin. It's in a cool area of the city with many bars nearby. Very artistic and creative area. I would definitely return to Rutz when back in Berlin.

The food was fantastic and so was the service. The athmosphere was not good enough for a restaurant that easily will cost you more than 300 euros pr person. Noisy room and the tables where set very close to each other. At times (because of bad acoustics and loud guests) it was hard to hear what the waiter was saying.... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
