Great experience

Really good coffee, lovely atmosphere and such a varied Sunday brunch buffet. Delicious and, for me, definitely worth seeking out for the experience of something a bit different.

Old wood, leather sofas, Berlin from the 30s. Jewish Russian food like beef stroganoff, dumplings stuffed with potato, vodka cocktails. Lots of Russian being spoken. Friendly staff, very welcoming to our kids.

We ate some very delicious blinis at Pasternak. The waitress was friendly and not without humour, the atmosphere was good. The tables are located close to each but that did not bother us. The pepper wodka at the end of the evening was great. We appreciated the retro design.

Had a good experience here. We did not have a reservation but were lucky enough to get in at short notice after a recommendation. The service was attentive and the staff very welcoming. I had beef stroganoff and it was fantastic. Highly recommend this restaurant.

Heartily recommend. Great service and very healthy portions. Very lucky to have got in with no reservation on a busy night.

The restaurant is frequented by locals, plus some tourists following guide tips. It is normally crowded, so booking in advance is highly recommended. The restaurant is located 20 min on foot from Alexander Platz, a nice and safe walk even by night. I was there with my wife for dinner: the atmosphere was lovely with live piano. We are not... More

Good food, music in the evening (not always) easy access from Berlin Mitte by tram (M2 from Alex) and all at a reasonable price - what more do you want? I liked the Stroganoff and followed up with a tasty Jabloco (stuffed apple). I heard that the blinis were good too! There are also some jewish-style dishes. I kept off the... More

We wanted to try something different and got what we were hoping for. There are not that many Russian restaurants around but judging by what we ate at Pasternak this is really a shame. I would eat here more often if I lived closer by. We started with a shared starter plate and maultaschen and both were great! We were... More

As usual i'll start my review by mentioning that i'm a chef myself, which makes some experiences potentially problematic. And second: i'm russian born. Usually i avoid Russian restaurants at all costs because for some reason, they are never good. This time i had friends from USA visiting and i wanted to introduce them to Russian cuisine. I did cook... More

This place offers russian food with high quality. The bortsh is very tasty (4.70€) and the wareniki are freshly made and delicious (11€). The atmosphere there is romantic with a person playing piano during the evening. The place is easily crowded so booking a table is highly recommended.Staff is thoughtful.

Staying in Prenzlauer Berg

Neighborhood Profile
Prenzlauer Berg
No Berlin neighborhood has undergone a greater change than Prenzlauer Berg. The artists and non-conformists that defined the district’s intriguing subculture in the 1980s and 90s have been replaced by a young, hip crowd that frequents the many cafes. Where there were once run-down houses in the shadow of the Berlin Wall, there are now designer shops. Beautiful old homes have been modernized and renovated, and on Sundays, thousands turn the park next to remnants of the wall into a playground for street artists, musicians, and flea market shoppers. This attracts young urban families who enjoy the balance of big city life and small-town comfort. Meanwhile, trendy, young, upper-class visitors from all over the world are attracted to the local high-end shops, cafés, and sophisticated bars and restaurants. The merits of this transformation are a favorite topic of debate around the city, but it makes for some of the best people-watching Berlin has to offer.
