One of the best restaurants in Berlin

Solid creative cuisine, great hosts, excellent service. Intimate place, not a showtime place to be seen. Real luxury.

We chose the menu, changes per season, and became a cullinary experience with many highlights. Mr Wannamacher and his lovely wife offer top service with excellenty prepared exceptional ingredients. We went here to celebrate a birthday, and it exceeded all our expectations. Wonderful place, nice hosts, excellent service, and the food... We are still talking about it, a long time after the visit. Not only is the food and wines wonderful, but it is also very, very good value for money. From their own homepage: 'Wannemacher received the coveted... More

Exquisite excellent kitchen. If you want the best possible food in Berlin this is the place to go to. Prices are not low, but the food is just excellent from the very first to the last course. Everything fits, and the service is perfect. This restaurant could have Michelin stars etc., but the chef is just interested in serving very... More

Back in Berlin for a few days, and that means another visit to my favorite restaurant, Alt Luxemburg, the excellent, welcoming, neighborhood dining spot, under the supervision of Chef/Owner Karl Wannemacher. Last night I had the joy of hosting four friends and colleagues for a splendid four-course dinner with paired wines. My first visit to Alt Luxemburg was several years... More

I was very excited to have an exclusive dinner at a one star decorated restaurant, but I guess my expectations were too high. The food is good, the service is very good (although was too formal), but the overall experience was disappointing. I expected it to be much more special, attractive, something you do not use to eat, even in... More

When the Berlin Wall came down and the West Berin gourmet restaurants all headed out to conquer the new center of the city, one restaurant stayed put. Alt Luxemburg is without a doubt the best restaurant in the former West Berlin. Mr. Wannemacher cooks at a Michelin one-star level. The interior of the restaurant is elegant and tasteful withoout being... More

Staying in Charlottenburg

Neighborhood Profile
Breathe in Berlin’s royal past while walking through the gardens of beautiful Charlottenburg Palace, which lends its name to this well-heeled neighborhood. Here you'll find some of the oldest homes in the city: upper-class apartment buildings with ornate facades and marble-floored foyers line the cobblestone streets. Stroll by sophisticated restaurants, through little parks, or around Lake Lietzensee. Window shop down Kurfürstendamm, the most renowned high-end shopping street in Berlin, where you can find all the big designer names. In the evening, visit one of the old theaters close by Zoo Station which were nightlife hot spots in the 1920s, or dine in one of the many international restaurants around Savignyplatz before heading to other parts of town for a night out.
