Great birthday meal out

We were in Berlin for my birthday and wanted a nice meal out. Our hotel didn't serve evening meals so before we went I investigated places to go. i can't eat wheat so needed somewhere that catered for this off the normal menu. Taverna Athene fitted my criteria. I'd visited their website and... read more

I agree totally with Gaston909. When you go in, the first thing they do is give you a glass of "ouzo". As I always drink ouzo in water, I know that the water turns milky with the addition of any alcoholic anise drink (ouzo, pernod, raki etc). As the milkiness did not appear, it seems unlikely that the preferred drink... More

Went with 3 others on a Thursday night. The front room was busy, there is another room through back. The waiters are friendly and efficient. Recommend the shared starter for 2 and also the whitebait main course. We had the delicious local Berliner beer but the best bit was when waiters brought us shots of ouzo after each course!

I went for lunch late afternoon on a saturnday. The place is nice, service is good. I ordered the athenas mixplate. Good variety of meats with salad and fries. Reasonable price and tasty food.

Good food, good drinks. Friendly employees. If you are into traditional Greek food, we assure you that it's one of the best places in Berlin to be visited.

The food was excellent and weather you were there as a couple or a family of 5, as we were, it was a great place to eat. The service was good and the price was good. The kids received an ice cream after dinner and the adults an Ouzo and it was great!

Really authentic food, decent price and it came out so quickly. The staff were wonderful and gave us 2 complementary vodka shots each so we were stoked. Would definitely recommend to anyone looking for good Greek food around Berlin

We stopped by here around 10pm on our arrival (Hotel in same building) on a Friday night and were still served (people kept coming in after us too) and welcomed with free ouzo shots. We had a quick mezze to share and everything was fresh and tasty enough with toasted (I would say more Turkish style) bread. What was really... More

I was really craving Greek food and we decided to try this place after seeing some Trip Advisor reviews. We were staying in Mitte, so while not too far to travel on the U-Bahn, still a bit out of the way. The atmosphere is friendly inside, though it's a bit of a noisy street so I'm glad we opted to... Research on Tripadvisor brought me to this Greek restaurant, only a short walk from my hotel. As it was a warm evening, I sat outside but later regretted it, as the noise of passing cars and the U-bahn meant my phone conversations were difficult. Go for an inside table, would be my advice. The extensive menu seemed to have all... More

Staying in Kreuzberg

Neighborhood Profile
Kreuzberg
Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighborhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and 60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and 90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighborhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.
