Touristy but oh so fun!

Is this restaurant touristy? Yes...loud...Yes...fun and full of "Bavarian style culture" YES! And the food was really good too! I think this restaurant is a definite "go to" place if you want to jump into the southern flavor of Germany. Great music...food and a friendly staff!

The Hofbrau is a place you must stop by - for just a drink or a full meal. We ate here, the food is good and the beer refreshing!!!! you are really here for the atmosphere and there is plenty of that available, a good place to go for excellent food, beer and entertainment.

Don't go here. It's just a tourist trap. Located on a busy main street in a very commercial area. There are other better German restaurants in Berlin.

We choose this restaurant because the discount of Berlin welcome card originally. I later learned that it's really a famous and great restaurant of Germany food. I have never tasted such a genuine Knuckle. the size is also really huge, and I do love the crisp surface, so delicious the staff was also very helpful and friendly We were all... More

On a recent tour of Berlin (from our cruise in the Baltic), this was the lunch stop for all the different tours. We were assigned tables by our group numbers and the meal was already decided for us, but it was delightful. German pretzels, bread, and water were already on the table before we got there. Drink orders were quickly... More

This place is packed and noisy but this is Berlin in the height of Summer. The food is awesome huge portions and the Beer even better. My wife had the Pork Shoulder and I had the Pork Knuckle which looked like a human head on a plate. The music is fun and typical of Bavarian culture. There were stag and... More

Went with my husband as we were stopping at the H2 in Alexanderplatz and it is very close. Umpa band were humorously entertaining and it is great for people watching. Young men paid for and received massages from attractive masseur what we ate! People danced to the music. British people got wasted, others were in family groups having a good... More

Large interior, menus in English and German, long tables to sit at and entertainment. Seemed like to be a young crowd, smokers were outside. Had a hearty roast pork and hofbrau original beer with was quite good. If you order tap water you will be charged for it so beware. Very noisy inside so not good for those hard of... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
