Great service and food

When we were here the staff was one short, but did a terrific job anyway. The food felt gunine and the staff was incredibly nice and spoke good English. Fantastic food, full of flavour and well prepared. The Beef Stroganoff was wonderful, the beef was very tender and well spiced. The soups and blinis are very good too. Good-sized portions to fill you up. It's a small restaurant and hard to get a table around dinner time. Reservations recommended, especially during the weekend and when you're with a group.

One of the best meals I've had in Berlin, rich, tons of flavor, I'll be back as often as I can before I leave.

I can't claim to be any kind of expert on East-European food, but I can certainly say that the food here is excellent. Some of the food is standard East-European dishes that you can get in plenty of other Berlin restaurants (e.g. goulash, stroganoff), but the standard here is exceptionally good. Other things are more unusual, such as the pelmeni... More

What can I say- it is even better than my grandmother cooks. I am Ukrainian and in this restaurant you can try food as we cook it and like it!

The restaurant is located in the Ostkreutz area of Berlin, when you get of the S-bahn you kinda worry if you are on the right spot, but then you get into the streets and the authentic nightlife of Berlin reveals itself. Matreshka is definitly not a flashy restaurant, the interior is minimalistic and quite boring. The atmosphere on the other... More

Good food and excellent value for money. Nice and polite service. Menu in German only but the staff speak English very well. Cozy atmosphere, mainly locals.

I have a very open mind when it comes to explore new cusines from around the globe, and visiting the Russian Matreshka restaurant was a very surprise. The establishment is very clean, this includes plates, cutlery and the rest room. The decore is very modern and minimalisti with a very responsive waiter. I visited the Matreshka with my mother on... This little place has an excellent chef. The food was truly very, very good. Also, the waiter was sweet and attentive, spoke several languages, and seemed to enjoy his job. We had lovely blinis (the large crepe-like kind) with salmon, very good russian eggs, beef stroganoff with hand-mashed potatoes and assorted filled crepes/blinis for dessert. All first class. The room... More

one of my favourite little restaurants in berlin! I've eaten here numerous times and can definetely recommend it. the food is good, delicious, authentic and cheap. you can get a soup, a starter and a main course for a super good value. sometimes - if you're lucky - you might even get a vodka shot for free in the end.... Staying in Friedrichshain

Neighborhood Profile
Friedrichshain
When you arrive at Warschauer Strasse in the heart of the district, you have found one of Berlin’s party hotspots. At night in Friedrichshain, the energy is palpable and the streets of this old worker's quarter are full of street musicians. On one hand, you may find a bar with international crowds, electronic music, long lines and panoramic views - on the other, an outside venue by old train yards featuring decrepit buildings and live alternative music. No matter your taste, the best way to end a night out in Friedrichshain is sitting by the Spree River at the East side gallery, the longest and best preserved piece of the Berlin Wall, watching the sun rise over the beautiful Oberbaum Bridge.
