Slightly awkward evening meal

Staying locally, we found this place at around 9:30pm on a Sunday evening. Its outdoor tables were full but for one, so the four of us sat down and were eventually met by a lady who seemed vey reluctant to serve us. Granted our German was limited but we tried, desperately, to make ourselves... read more

I wanted to like this small Greek restaurant, but last night an unforgivable experience means we won't be back. The waiter, who was eating at the adjacent table before, during, and after serving us, brought us our mains. A few forkfulls of the garnish salad accompanying my chicken stopped my chewing dead as I nearly broke my tooth on a... More

Staying in Neukolln

Neighborhood Profile
Neukolln
No Berlin neighborhood is more popular with the young and jet-set crowd than the old worker's district of Neukölln. With so many Turkish settled here, the area became known as "Little Istanbul." Today the percentage of foreigners is still high and visitors still frequent the Turkish shisha bars. In the daytime, they also visit the designer shops and sit by the canal in one of the street cafés up and down Westerstrasse or at Maybachufer, having a beer and waving to the sightseeing boats as they float by. But at night, Neukölln is dominated by increasingly young, alternative, and international crowds. This is particularly evident in the northern section of the district where there are many bars, funky clubs, galleries and restaurants. There, the night never seems to end.
