We escaped a terrible restaurant called Defne and ended up at Hadigari. We were quite impressed by the service and choices on the menu. Great prices, perfectly grilled meats! Will go again.

There are so many Turkish grill restaurants in Kreuzberg you are spoiled for choice; we chose this place at random and were not disappointed. In such circumstances I usually opt for a classic - in this case the signature Iskender Kebap - and the portion was generous, well-presented, tasty and at a pretty good price. Plenty of tables outside, good... More

We ordered 5 different dishes and all of them were delicious (even the bread). Nice tea, with fresh mint. When we received the bill we also discovered it's really cheap. The best part is that they served lunch at any time (we went there at 3 PM when everything else was close)

We wondered into this restaurant by accident on a busy Friday night in Berlin. The restaurant was a little quiet but there was live music and we were cheerfully welcomed in. The starters (borek and grilled halloumi) were delicious and fresh tasting and almost big enough to be mains. My partner and I both had the lamb kebab (isgara adana... More

I'm not an expert, but this is the best Turkish food I've had. the large combined hot and cold appetizer platter for 2 is very generous, and everything on it was delicious. the house special ground lamb skewer on eggplant sauce was both delicious and plentiful. we were in a group and had too much food. as, i hope, a... An unpleasant experience. We rather foolishely splurged on a sumptuous dinner, food was not good, and we had to beg for a glass of tap water, which we were eventually denied. On top of it all we had to wait for more than half an hour for one of the desserts. In our despair we asked for the bill, which... More

Staying in Kreuzberg

Neighborhood Profile
Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighborhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and 60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and 90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighborhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.
