Artsy and cozy

Kind of like a ruin pub with its design. Good place to grab a beer in a hidden alley, but the staff was not so kind when we were there.

Every time I'm in Berlin, a visit to the cafe Cinema is a must! Cozy, intimate with great music and staff. This is a great place if you want to avoid the tourists in the area, to hang with the locals!

The street art here in this particular area is fascinating and extremely skilful. It's a quaint cafe. It's nearby Anne Frank's museum and the monster museum.

We sought out this bar after reading reviews on TripAdvisor prior to travelling. We arrived there early evening in search of a glass or two of wine before dinner and the place was packed with almost all seats taken inside and lots of people sitting in the small garden towards the back. It understandably took a little while for us... More

We got two coffees - the staff member happily made us Mochas despite it not being on the menu and she did it well. Tasted of both coffee and chocolate. The tart looked great. But apart from sweetness I wasn't even sure it was a lemon or a custard tart. Pastry was well cooked. The atmosphere sitting outside amongst the... More

I stumbled onto this little bar in Berlin by chance, wondering around Hackescher Markt and was immidiately drown into this old-school, non-presumptuous, busy tiny place. Nothing fancy, on the contrary: it is almost as simple as you can get, but it is blessed with that illusive, hard-to-define quality which creates the right ambiance. This is a place to meet friends... More

We visited here twice during our recent trip to Berlin, my girlfriend particularly liked this place - stylish, retro with a film noir feel - amazing that its so relaxed yet in a busy central area. Nice and dark with candlelight. We only stopped for some beers but we really enjoyed the atmosphere, I'd recommend this place to anyone visiting... More

I've visited Cafe Cinema every time I've been to Berlin as I think it's a great little place to while away the hours with a nice glass of wine and lacks the pretension that many places in Berlin have. They also make the most fantastic glühwein!

It was little bit strange to find this little coffe-shop on a high street, next to Starbucks and other giants. It was a nice surprise because it is so different. I had no expectation besides a hot cappuccino when I entered on that freezing day. But I received so much more than that. The furniture, the music, the tables, chairs,... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
