great german food and beer in a great atmosphere

we came here twice. Both times food and service was very good. We had german food both times. It's reasonably priced as well. I woul reccommend booking a table because they get quite busy in the evening. If we come back to Berlin we will certanly re-visit.

Came here before going to Augustiner am Platzl in Munich, but I think if you want to order beer, go for the edelstoff if available. Ordered a rumpsteak and some sausage platter as well as a goulash soup to share. Food and service were great. I was initially wary of restaurants in Germany as the service reviews I've read have... Location: Excellent location across the street from the Gendarmenmarkt with a nice view of buildings and the square. I went on Wednesday, 04/15/2015 and Thursday 04/16 seating myself at on outside table both times. I went on a recommendation from the

Found this restaurant on a City break to Berlin and we were amazed by the atmosphere, service and quality of the food. The place was very busy, yet we were found a table and had drinks (0.5L Bavarian beer) within minutes of sitting down. I had to try the chef's signature dish - a 1kg pork knuckle with the best... Ate here with 5 other family members ,lunch before going to the airport. We all had sausages of some kind, everyone said how good the food was. I had local sausage and mash which was served with the best sauerkraut I've tasted ( but I'm not an expert) the sausage was really tasty and the mash so creamy, absolutely delicious.... More

Having been to Berlin and the Augustiner a couple of times I can easily recommend the place. It's a bit kitchy trying to copy the true bavarian eating and atmosphere, but they succeed with the food and the beer (obviously :)). The Schweinhaxe was a pleasant surprise, though not as good as some bavarian restaurants (eg. Haxenbauer in Munchen).

I was there yesterday with on casual business dinner. The restaurant is well located in the center of the city. At first I thought we won't get seated because it was very busy, but within few minutes we were on our way to a nice corner table. The atmosphere was great, there was a vibe in this place, and if... Stop! Than sit in a bench around the counter. And ask for a beer since 1328. A famous awesome beer, and the place as well. The service is nice. And the food...I don't know. I took only the good beer and some sausage . But the place was full! Everybody eating.

Our first time in Berlin so wanted to try local food and were not disappointed. The place was really busy when we got there but we didn't have to wait to long for a table. The staff were very busy but served you quickly. We decided to have a sharing main course of German sausages, very good indeed, so good... More

Great place in the centre of Berlin with a nice buzz in the restaurant. They serve typical german food, schnitzels (the size of a full plate!) etc., with 1 litre jugs of beers - everything you want! The only downside is, that it is a bit over-priced.

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
