Amazing traditional German cuisine in a fun atmosophere

This was by far the best schnitzel we have had in all our travels through Germany. Be warned though, you get two giant pieces of schnitzel so you could possibly share the meal. We had a great meal at Dicke Wirtin. The menu was limited to typical German food but it was well cooked & the portions were huge. It was not expensive & very good value for money. The waiters were all friendly & the place was very popular with both locals & tourists. People were being turned away while we were... More

We loved our meal here - enormous portions, great beer and a very interesting and authentic German setting. Couldn't believe the low prices. You need to pay in cash, no cards accepted.

We stopped at Dicke Wirtin because we were in the neighborhood and were looking for something to eat. We didn't have a reservation but the personnel gave us a table without any problem. The food is not super sophisticated but that doesn't mean it is less good. The helpfull staff, good food and great atmosphere make this a lovely place... More

Great milieu, friendly service and Schnitzels the size of an elephant's ear! Absolutely worth your money. This is a Berlin must in my opinion.

I'm from the United States and to me this felt like a Berlin version of the Cheers bar from the Boston-based television show. Sure their was kitschy decor, warm lighting and plenty of beer, but more important it was friendly and lively. I was alone and Sat at the small bar, but felt instantly welcome by the bartender and staff.... More

Had a great night in Dicke Wirtin. Good beer. Delicious traditional german food - I had the Wiener Schnitzel which was huge and delicious. Friendly staff. Very quirky decor adds to the charm of this place - a personal favourite was the gnome who appeared to have been murdered with a fork. Poor fellow.

This is a classic alte Berliner kneipe. Loads of history, big portions of food, and loads of old stuff and pictures to look at while you eat and drink, The food (mostly German classics) was OK, and the waiters were smiling and kind, but it took ages to get another beer. I actually waited for half an hour for my... More

I'm not keen on 'traditional' German food, having tried it both Turkey and Majorca having stayed in resorts with a fair share of German tourists. So I entered this traditional restaurant with the worry of not liking anything. I had the Berlin Platter which was part good and part OK. My friends foods looked more appetizing, I tried some wiener... More

We were only in Berlin for one night so I'd looked online for somewhere to go for the evening. We didn't want to stay at our hotel and wanted to try somewhere more traditional rather than something we could get back home so this place seemed like it would suit us. It was quite a walk from our hotel but... More

Staying in Charlottenburg

Neighborhood Profile
Charlottenburg
Breathe in Berlin’s royal past while walking through the gardens of beautiful Charlottenburg Palace, which lends its name to this well-heeled neighborhood. Here you'll find some of the oldest homes in the city: upper-class apartment buildings with ornate facades and marble-floored foyers line the cobblestone streets. Stroll by sophisticated restaurants, through little parks, or around Lake Lietzensee. Window shop down Kurfürstendamm, the most renowned high-end shopping street in Berlin, where you can find all the big designer names. In the evening, visit one of the old theaters close by Zoo Station which were nightlife hot spots in the 1920s, or dine in one of the many international restaurants around Savignyplatz before heading to other parts of town for a night out.
