The restaurant Gendarmerie with its unique ambience is located directly at the Gendarmenmarkt in Berlin-Mitte, one of the most beautiful places in Berlin. The food served at the Gendarmerie is modern German cuisine with a focus on specialities from Berlin with international influences.

"Berliner Bio-Senfeier" (organic mustard egg), "Konigsberger Klopse" (traditional meatballs) and the legendary Schnitzel "Le gens d'arms" are just some of the delicious highlights served at the Gendarmerie.

Whether a la carte dishes, the four-course "Berliner Evening Menu" for 59.00 EUR or the daily changing lunch menu for 7.90 EUR - be our guest and enjoy a wonderful time at our restaurant.

Nice place with more potential

Near the gendarmenmarkt a nice looking restaurant with potential. Decor is nice and the place is reasonably big but still comfortable. Very high ceilings give it a nice feeling including the art. Staff is nice and friendly, although they appear to have some time management issues. Same as the... read more

To go abroad and have such excellent fish and chips was a shock. It was well cooked, well presented and very tasty. Also there was plenty of it for a small amount of money. 8 Euros approx. Great paintings on the walls, airy and clean.

We went here on our first night in Berlin, and thank god this place didn't set the precedence for the rest of the trip. Firstly, we were shown to a table and then told we would have to move as they needed the one we were sat at for a larger group. This was ok, however we were told a... More

Great themed restaurant with fantastic historical works on the wall. Food was great, however service was poor, suffering from poor management. The waiters were pulled from pillar to post and lacked coordination. If you have patience, you will be seen to.

We had a reservation, that we had made over a month earlier, only to find that on arrival we were not in the main restaurant but the Auchen next door as the main restaurant had been booked out for a party of 190 people. Admittedly the same menu, but as a result the service was poor. Our waiter was working... More

Nice decor, decent food. Like in all Berlin restaurants I've been to this time, the service is very good, competent & charming. The place itself is beautiful - perfect decor for a nice evening

We stopped in late on a Friday and was pleasantly surprised by great service and a fabulous meal. It had the best fish we had on our trip-- the salt encrusted sea bass! Delicious!

This place is handy to the Opera and we ate 1.5 hours before our night out. There was barely enough time to have one course. The service was slow and things were quite disorganised. Saying that the food was ok and the staff were pleasant. A bit Fawlty Towers!

We went here on our Wedding anniversary which was on Sunday 1st November. We arrived at the Gendarmerie at around 9pm and the restaurant was very quiet. The interior is stunning with the walls adorned with murals and decorated sections of the old Berlin Wall. We ordered the Chateaubriand which was cooked very well and carved at the table by... More

Was here in business and with a large group. The food was good, but the service was slow considering we had all pre-ordered. The interior décor is impressive.

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
