Elegant gastronomic secret !

This cunningly hidden restaurant is a private secluded villa on the banks of the Kreutzberg canal. The mainly German menu is expertly prepared and elegantly served.

Decided to try this as it was recommended in The Rough Guide and Eyewitness Tavel Top 10. It is a strange place which appeared to be closed up when we arrived. The front door was locked and we were just about to leave when I noticed a sign off to one side saying in both German and English to press... More

This restaurant was suggested by the concierge of our hotel. We wanted to taste a typical German menu. It was a good choice, food tasty and superb. I had farm duckling of the region Brandenburg and very light Silesian poppy seed cake.

We spent a cold winter evening in this cozy restaurant. Booking is advisable and was easily done online. We arrived at 8pm and it was quiet, but filled quickly. It has a very enjoyable, relaxed atmosphere with an up-market, cozy feel. Good for romantic dinners or business. I had the venison in gin source. It was cook perfectly, very tender.... More

We were charmed the minute we stepped out of the taxi, met at the door by our extremely attentive staff, appreciated the menu selections, enjoyed our appetizers, admired our waitresses excellent service.....and then we got a bad bottle of wine. It happens, some even say almost 10% of all wine is corked. We mentioned to the waitress, who said she... More

My husband and I, Americans with a strong connection to Berlin, wanted to celebrate this special anniversary not only with a trip but a party. A Berlin friend mentioned this place and we proceeded to make arrangements by email, but did a final wine tasting and discussion of the set up after arriving in Berlin. The staff was very accommodating... More

What a dreadful evening! What dreadful hosts! Berlin is a fabulous city. We were there for the 25th anniversary commemoration of the wall’s coming down. Altes Zollhaus was chosen for our farewell dinner. They agreed well in advance that they would easily be able to accommodate our group (which included a guest who is wheelchair bound and several others for... More

The heavy wooden boards as tables and the high ceiling , along that the restaurant lies by a canal, remind us of its old use, as a customs point! The food, although a bit touristic ( mind that we were a big group) was more than agreeable. We had a liver pate with green in the beginning, a very weird... More

We had a lovely dinner here. We were there late in the evening, so it was nice and quiet. It's a charming place albeit a little hard to find on foot. Our waiter was very attentive and warm. There were a few issues with the English translation of their menu (e.g. bacon was really prosciutto). Portions are generous. One nice... More

Staying in Kreuzberg

Neighborhood Profile
Kreuzberg
Berlin's revolutionary heart and immigrant roots can both be found in Kreuzberg, but this central neighborhood is beginning a new chapter. In the 1950s and 60s, Turkish guest workers settled around Kottbusser Tor, while in the 1980s and 90s, rambunctious squatters and artists gathered to live a carefree life here. An old hospital even became a hotspot of riots between squatters and police. Today you can still find the best kebabs in town and many underground clubs, but a lot has changed as well. The hospital has been transformed into an art center, and increasingly you will find new urban cafés, restaurants and designer shops. Rising housing prices and gentrification threaten the spirit of this area along the Spree River, but the neighborhood’s legacy is upheld by a very engaged community fighting to preserve its rebellious identity.
