Service ok, food good

Traditional German breakfasts here and good coffee. Ampelmann is a bit of a tradition and it was fun to be part of it. Nice and close to Museum Island.

We arrived in Berlin around midday and beelined our way to Ampelmann. We had been told that this was a great place for Sunday brunch. Restaurant was a little hard to find for a Berlin first-timer, but was well worth the search. Waitress was really sweet, we arrived at 1:30, and there was only half an hour left of the... More

We weren't quite sure exactly which restaurant to go to for our Saturday night in Berlin so followed the river for a while before we came across a row of 5 or 6 restaurants - Ampelmann was one of them and looked good inside so we took a chance. After 10 mins we thought we had made a mistake -... More

This place just draws you in to have a (soft)drink outside. Enjoy the view of the small green space, the river and the architecture. Add a sunset and your experience is complete.

Other restaurants of the Hackescher Markt were full so we walked a bit further to find this romantic place under the S-Bahn and the shore of the Spree. We liked the food (small italian menu but well prepared) and the music (Motown). We'd come back!

We had the bread & jam, & the bread & cheese breakfast options with a couple of cappuccinos. Both meals were far more than we needed for a late breakfast, but good fresh selection of breads/rolls & cheeses. Cappuccinos were average at best, as was the service but by this stage were on a par with what we expected during... More

After a solid morning wandering around Berlin we took a snap decision to eat as we were flagging and needed something before taking on museum island. Warm welcome good menu of Italian basics. Great sized portions and delicious. Nice spot next to the spree. Good value. Well recommended .

The pizza was really tasty. and not too pricey. Once you got used to the whining of the S-bahn trains passing the curve right above, the location is actually rather nice, close to the Spree.

After a few days of hard core sight seeing and lots of walking, we needed someplace to just relax, people watch and enjoy the scenery Couldn't beat this place to while a away a few hours Pulled up a few deck chairs and tucked into a variety of bottled beers that they had available and just soaked up the rays... Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
