In an excellent location with views of the park and river. The trains overhead were not too obtrusive. Good menu at good prices and satisfactory service.

Was sitting outside this restaurant watching the moon rise over the Berliner Dom. A plate of antipasti, a bottle of wine and a Gorgonzola pizza matched the view perfectly. Prices were reasonable and service was responsive.

We spotted the Ampelmann Restaurant while on a boat trip on the Spree. (During our time in Berlin we got a bit obsessed with the cute little Ampelmann so we were delighted to see Ampelmann deckchairs by the river and vowed to return there later!) We had risotto and pizza in the restaurant and it was very tasty. I felt... More

Berlin's obsessed with the beach bar. Located mostly on the banks of the Spree, these laid-back outdoor sun drenched spots bring a "tropical" flare to the capital. The Ampelmann 'almost beach' bar in Mitte, an outdoor riverside bar across from Museum Island comes complete with a bottle shack and beach chairs and is just one of these kitsch oddities. Pull... We came for Sunday brunch. Decent spread, friendly staff and a nice base to eat before walking. Or you can just sprawl out on the deck chairs provided to just people watch.

The spot is very nice. Near the river. But the pizza was not good: dry, uninspired cooked. As if it came out of the fridge and was warmed up. And the waiters did not pay any attention. Nice spot, but only for a drink

I liked the festival-like feel of this place with deck-chairs facing the river and buskers performing. My partner loved his pepperoni pizza, saying that it was spicy and good. I was less taken with my veggie option, which had a slightly fishy taste that I couldn't quite put my finger on - perhaps it had been cooked on the same... More

We went to this place just to be able to relax in the sunchairs with some beers and enjoy the city, river and people. A great place to take a break.

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
