German food at its best.

This is a fairly (high) standard German place like so many others at Nicolaiviertel. We had been to MUTTER HOPPE the previous day and spotted this lovely looking old fashioned restaurant and made a mental note of it to go the next day . We were here on a Wednesday late evening and this restaurant was surprisingly not to busy,we looked in and the staff greeted us with a big smile and ushered us... More

Time was pushing on and we stopped in for dinner. I had pork steak which was ok. My girlfriend had a Eisbein which is a cut of pork layered with a big chunk of fat. It again was ok but not great. The service was really good as the waiter was very friendly with a smile on his face the... More

I went to Altberliner Weißbierstube during a business trip in Berlin. The two of us wanted a traditional restaurant with atmosphere. We stopped as we found it attractive for that reason and there were a lot of people eating in already. Great atmosphere. service is also very pleasant. The menu offers a good range of traditional dishes. The code however... More

We ate here two nights out of three and had an excellent meal both times. Soup, mains and desserts were all great and plates went back completely cleared! Lovely relaxed atmosphere and the staff were really friendly. Excellent value for money. We wanted somewhere to sample German food and this was perfect.

Great food, great prices. There are more "normal" options on the menu if you want to be a little conservative with your choices but this offers real German cuisine. We tried the raw minced pork with raw onion and a raw egg - an experience to say the least. My partner loved it! A school trip came into the restaurant... More

restaurant is very very nice and typical German, in the city center of Berlin, right in Alexander Platz. Went the first time 5 years ago and since then every time I go to Berlin I go directly to this restaurant for my dinner. Friendly staff, they do speak English and also have English menus. Food is really good, is prepared... More

Came across this restaurant by accident, but so glad we did. Fantastic German meals - heart warming and filling. We'd wandered around the city looking for somewhere for dinner and didn't fancy fast food - but this restaurant was brilliant. We went back every night and have just had an early dinner here before heading to the airport. The staff... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
