Above average for the area

Located a shouting distance away from Hackescher markt this italian offers pizza a notch above the offerings around this area. The crust is very thin and crispy, verging on dry, the toppings and the cheese are mostly good quality. We had a margarita and a vegetariana: both were nice, but we... read more

Took our group here when we held a conference. Mixed starter was good as was the wine. Main courses were just ok. Nice atmosphere but service on the slow side and not very attentative. Bill was ok in relation to what we got.

I don't know where they're really from, but the people there (the ones that I met, anyway) weren't Italian. They didn't even speak the language. The spaghetti wasn't like anything I've ever eaten in Italy either. OK beer and not expensive, but if it's real Italian cooking you're after, look somewhere else.

A regular eatery with some nice, but hardly earth-shattering pizzas and good beer (as most everywhere in Berlin). What makes it a five star establishment was the friendly and efficient service. Our waiter truly went above and beyond, splitting pizzas for those sharing and seemed genuinely interested in us having a good time. Can you get better pizza in Berlin?... More

Great food with excellent service. We can absolutlly recommend this restaurang. The local Italians came by late and eat at the restaurang and that tells you that the food has goid quality.

We went there as our second option, Vinaggio, was closed. We had the Penne Parma and the Scampi. Both were decent, bot nothing extraordinary. For dessert we had the tiramisu and the creme brulee. I like the tiramisu with strong coffee and taste of alcohol, but this was to sweet for me. The creme brulee was irregularly heated, so the... More

Nothing special here - nice atmosphere, friendly Italian personnel. They serve large, simple, good pizzas, but their tomatosoup was as salty as a New York sidewalk in January. Amounts under 30 euros are payable in cash only (???), but, on the positive side, the waiter was willing to make an exception for me.

Although there's no shortage of Italian restaurants in Berlin, Aposto, is a real standout; especially if you find yourself in the Mitte section - near Hakescher Market and the many museums. Recommended by a friend whom lived in the area, Aposto features great Pizza, a number of fresh pasta dishes and full bar. By nearly every measure - Aposto is... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
