Flammkuchen--a savory tarte

Hidden away in a quiet side street not far from Alexander Platz this small restaurant is a find. We went mid-afternoon after we had roamed around Hackesche Hoefe (more hype than a glimpse into old Berlin), starved but wanting to eat inexpensively. We went mid-afternoon after we had roamed around Hackesche Hoefe (more hype than a glimpse into old Berlin), starved but wanting to eat inexpensively. They serve various sweet and savory tartes, the crust is like a super thin pizza crust...delicious. Other people... More

This restaurant was recommended in our guidebook and as we visited Berlin in December it was too cold to walk around making our own discoveries. We went for an evening meal.and had our hearts set on the "Flammkuchen" - a pizza topped with creme fraice and toppings. Due to the strange way Berlin number their roads it was a bit... More

The food here was pretty good. Delicious salad and German ravioli. Price also good, considering how expensive Berlin can be sometimes. It's quite hidden and might take some finding, but well worth a visit if you come here.

Staying in Charlottenburg

Neighborhood Profile
Charlottenburg
Breathe in Berlin’s royal past while walking through the gardens of beautiful Charlottenburg Palace, which lends its name to this well-heeled neighborhood. Here you'll find some of the oldest homes in the city: upper-class apartment buildings with ornate facades and marble-floored foyers line the cobblestone streets. Stroll by sophisticated restaurants, through little parks, or around Lake Lietzensee. Window shop down Kurfürstendamm, the most renowned high-end shopping street in Berlin, where you can find all the big designer names. In the evening, visit one of the old theaters close by Zoo Station which were nightlife hot spots in the 1920s, or dine in one of the many international restaurants around Savignyplatz before heading to other parts of town for a night out.
