Food for Thought

This interesting restaurant should come with a set of instructions. As other have noted, it is hilariously situated in a loading dock and disguised as a speakeasy (once you've found it, and are surprised you've succeeded in doing so, you still can't get in until you buzz for a mysterious unlocking... read more

Part of the cache of this restaurant is finding it. It is down a service alley behind the Westin, It is a really creative vegetarian restaurant that doesn't feel like a vegetarian restaurant. We had made a reservation through the concierge in our hotel. Luckily we brought the written confirmation with us, because when we got there, we were told... More

thought name was Cookies and Cream, which is a vegetarian gourmet restaurant located in the Mitte behind the Westin. Go on their web site which cleverly shows how to find it in the alley. The decor is spars and contemporary. We got the pre fixed menu which I highly recommend. We are not vegetarians and often have not liked all... More

Went to Cookies recently with a group of business partners. After having mentioned to the waiter, who asked, that the starter could have been a bit more spicy he was already annoyed. After the main we said it was "much better" and that we loved it. After that, the chef came running out harrassing us, using bad language, and asked... More

My wife wanted to try a vegetarian restaurant so I plodded along, not too enthusiastic - it was brilliant. Incredible tasty meals, tried the set menu first time and went back a few days later. Laid back and stylish, hard to find (you'll think you are in the wrong place), however, ring the doorbell and enjoy. Good winelist and great... More

My partner and I are both Vegan so decided to try this while in Berlin - it turned out to be the worst dining experience of our lives. It took ages to find it. We had to walk around several times, asking in the surrounding shops. They have become accustomed to people not being able to find it and having... More

Actually we found it at the first try after people said here it took them 30 min. Great, trendy place... And the food... Wow! Very delicious molecular cooking. Great value for money, vegetarian gourmet place.

What a great experience for a non vegetarian. Beautiful food, wonderful presentation and delicious detectable flavours! The restaurant is in an old warehouse ( very Berlin style) and is not easy to find unless you are a local. It is at the back of the Westin Hotel and down the food services lane. The building once held a night club... More

This is a definitely a hidden restaurant in Berlin. By hidden I mean good luck finding it! You feel like you are going somewhere you shouldn't be and then you see a door. The flickering chandelier outside is a nice touch as it ties in with the Opera next door. The food here is incredible. As a vegetarian and going... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
