Fantastic German food with friendly service.

We went to Schwarzwaldstuben on the recommendation of our Berlin tourguide. The place was packed despite it being a weekday. We were very lucky to be able to share a table with an older couple. Great menu with lots of choices. The pumpkin soup was the perfect way to warm up on a chilly night. The... read more

The staff were very nice, helpful and could speak English (and were patient enough to let you practice your German!) The traditional German food was amazing. I had the spatzle, frankfurters and lentils which they served with Berry vinegar and mustard to enjoy it "as the Germans do". The beer was great, the venue and ambience were lovely, and this... More than met our expectations. All food beautifully cooked. My wild boar steak superb. Good selection of German beers. Very relaxed atmosphere, may have to share tables, which was fine.

When I have visitors it has become a tradition of sorts to bring them there on their last evening in Berlin to experience some really delicious real German food. Everything I've tasted on their menu is fantastic, especially the seasonal/daily dishes. The Kaiserschmarrn is an absolute must for desert!

Great food, great environment! We ordered 2 different traditional dishes. Both were really good. It's located in a super nice area also.

A friend took me here during my short stay in Berlin. The menu has quite a few options and everything we ordered was delicious. Flammkuchen (apple, onion, and bacon) and anything with landjäger!! The service was a bit slow and the prices are high but a real treat.

We've this place twice due to the great staff that operate this place. Great people with the ability to give you a great service even when the restaurant is completely full. The food is great! Fresh, tasty and traditional. I don't know how they do this mash potatoes but it's really special!

Found this gem after a friend recommended it. Located in a very cute neighborhood, the decor of the restaurant is cute and amusing and you feel at home right away. The food was the best meal we had in Berlin - huge portions and delicious. Would definitely recommend.

I had very nice deer stew, although slightly put off by picture of Bambi on the wall! Others had thin German style pizzas - all very nice. Follwed by excellent curd cheese dumplings with fruit for dessert. The spatburgunder red wine was very good - why can't we get this in the UK? Cost for for of us 116 Euros... More

Staying in Mitte

Neighborhood Profile
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
