Traditional Yet Hip

Sometimes finding traditional food that is authentic aka not served in a trashy touristy restaurant is hard to find for a good price. Recommended by our guide books and guide, we were a little worried about the kitschy sounding place. But it is very well done, the place feels welcoming. The food was excellent - I would particularly recommend the homemade ravioli (big ravioli cut into pieces). Service was great, the place was busy. We should have sat at the bar - that... More

Worth looking for. We were staying at Movenpick Hotel which is a ride away but well worth the effort. They atmosphere is busy and very friendly. Food was superb, real German fayre. great beers too and the cost €20 each for main course pud and a large beer. Perfect!!

A nice place, with a quite warm and friendly welcome. You can easily wait for your table drinking a good beer. Ok, I am italian, and obviously i find traditional Swavian cooking very basic and simple. But they do a great job trying to make the dishes more modern and healty. I enjoyed very much the wild pig with such... More

We came across this whilst doing a search for walkable restaurants from the easyhotel. Couldn't be easier to find and as one of our party was a first time in Germany, we were always looking for German food. Glad to see that there is a tiled oven in here and a young dynamic staff who were attentive and helpful in... More

Good place to test some local dishes in a local pub like atmosphere. Perfectly good food but nothing extraordinary. PS. don't get the table in front of the door at least on winter, since the cold comes in pretty badly.

Recommended by a local friend - great German athmo and food. Mind lentil was ok. But the "pizza" dish with meat and vegetables my friend ordered was really good. They do not take credit card - cash only.

The restaurant was a nice clean and warming atmosphere. We started with the bacon, onion and apple flammkuchen with the various starters platter. For mains, we had the schnitzel, the soft and tender pork with fried potato and sauerkraut and the game sausages with mash. We finished off strong with the caramelised apple crepes and ice cream. All the food... More

We went here without a reservation on a saturday night and every table was reserved. It was 18.30 and one of the tables was booked from 20.00. We just wanted a main and so they told us we could take the table and if we wanted to stay longer we could move to the bar. We had veal with pommes... More

We'd suffered a terrible night in a nearby hotel so came here the morning after hoping to be revived with breakfast and kindness! It was perfect. We chose a window seat and the waitress offered us the English menu without us having to ask. Boyfriend had breakfast of fruits, muesli and cold meats and I had herby scrambled eggs. Also... More

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
