It was recommended to us by a Berliner for dinner. Although a franchise it still has an original atmosphere of a german pub, since it has been aroung for decades and has been visited by many celebrities and politicians. They have a wall covered in photos to prove it and is fun trying to recognise the German personalities you might... More

We took the train to the area near the Spree River known for its excellent restaurants. We had no idea where to eat and by good fortune alone, decided on the Standige Vertretung. We were all impressed by the umbrella-covered eating area just across the street from the restaurant, with its wonderful view of the Spree. The waiters have a... More

This is the perfect place for lunch. Convenient to Museum Island and the Bradenburg Gate, this large pub-style restaurant featured great German food, great service, and interesting pictures on 18-foot high walls of West and East German notables. Not to be missed.

If you miss your "Köllsch" in Berlin or the famous "Sauerbraten" or "Himmel and Eerd" come to this place, next to the "Bahnhof Friedrichstrasse". If you are interested in the history of the "two German states" you will find a lot of pictures on the walls. I would recommend this place for a nice lunch-break after the visit to the... More

We ate here on a Sunday evening, having been recommended by a local. The restaurant was busy and lively but we were able to be seated immediately. The decor and atmosphere added to the evening. We started with an amazing goulash which is quite possibly the best thing I've ever eaten abroad. The only downside was that we ordered two... More

Found this place as we walked along River Spree and called in for a drink.Stunning place with amazing atmosphere created by photos and press cuttings covering the walls even in the toilets. Loved it so much we went back for lunch on our last day. Thanks to staff for booklet and Christmas hats.I had a flammekuchen which was superb but... More

We ate here on a Saturday. We had to wait, but it was worth it. The food was very good (I had Das Altkanzler Filet, a currywurst with potatoes). Plus the atmosphere was a lot of fun.

Neighborhood Profile
Mitte
The center of Berlin, Mitte is most famous for sights like the Brandenburg Gate, Alexanderplatz, and Museum Island. The central location makes this one of the city's most expensive places to live. It is here the oldest traces of the city can be found, and evidence of some significant transformations, as well. The gangsters that once ruled the impoverished streets between Alexanderplatz and Hackescher Markt have given way to an international crowd pursuing fashionable designer clothes, the newest food trends and frequenting the many craft shops. Graphic designers have taken up residence in what used to be backyard barns and stables. There are still vestiges of the old days, however. The occasional housing complex is a reminder of the neighborhood’s past. And if you look carefully, an old 1920s ball house nestled amongst the art galleries and exhibitions of Auguststrasse can still teach you how to dance the old fashioned way.
