Been here many times. Interesting decor just a bit too big of a restaurant for my taste. Food is good we tried the half duck, bratwurst and beef tartare. All was well presented and tasty. My favorite was the duck. Good local wines. I recommend it and will return again. CIAO

If you are looking for a place where you can taste the german and most specifically the food from Franken, then you definitely have to go to The Backöfele. Since you cross the main door, it's already the start of the travel : the court is well used and getting there in winter with this cosy mood, candles, and so... More

...but you should try. It's delicious. Schnitzels were great, accompanying Franconian salad was enormous, and I made the oh-so-tasty mistake of ordering two extra side dishes - creamed mushrooms and sautéed potatoes. Scrummy. Staff were wonderfully friendly too, as we've been finding everywhere we've been in Wurzburg. There's also a groovy cocktail lounge attached to the restaurant through a stone... More

If you are looking for authentic, stop here! Great atmosphere. Authentic old style German set-up. Traditional dishes were excellent. A little hard to find but worth the effort!!!

Würzburg is a university town, so the supply of willing and motivated staff is good. These people, clad in becoming dark colors, try to make you feel welcome and in this they do succeed. The food is pricey - I am a native Franconian myself and I am able to compare - and the quality of the dishes is ok.... More

Only 200 yards from Alte Mainbruecke and Rathaus (still a little bit hidden, though), this restaurant offers a great selection of Frankonias local specialties, at good quality and acceptable ($$-$$$) price. This place is larger then it looks but fills up quite regularly. Friendly service in a slightly buzzing atmosphere.

Heard it could get busy so we popped in and booked a table. Staff very polite and friendly and very helpful. Wine soup was gorgeous, and I had the beef which was lovely. First real try of German food. Unusual things, but very good food. Not too pricey

Good food without being outstanding. Most staff lovely, but one in particular pretty rude. Lovely surroundings, however, and I would recommend.

This was the first restaurant we visited in Wurzburg, and in Germany as a whole. We thought the entrance, with its huge double doors and underpass walkway, looked fun, and we were starving, so we decided to try it. My girlfriend had a delicious steak, and I, being a largish man, had to try the platter filled with all different... More

We had not read trip adviser but the receptionist in our hotel made a mark on the map and said this was a good restaurant. We found it and although we did not have a reservation they found us a table. The service was excellent as was the wine, the food was good and plentiful; t was not gourmet but... More
