We stopped by for a snack as it seemed like a good location. We ate outside and they were about half full. We ordered 2 beers and a cheese plate. ten minutes later the beers arrived. forty five minutes later with beers gone we kept trying to get someone's attention to get another beer or and inquire about the food.... Since living in Passau I've visited the Gaststätte Zum alten Bräuhaus on multiple occasions, for both lunch and dinner, and it has never failed to disappoint. The place is nearly always busy, which means reservations are strongly recommended if you want to be seated straight away, but this leads to a cosy rather than chaotic atmosphere. Typically Bavarian, the food... More

I spent a weekend in Passau and ate twice here. Just of the suspension bridge in the old town it is in a typical Bavarian setting, lots of wood and antlers. I had suckling pork in dark beer sauce and a goulash. Both came with delicious dumplings and salad. They reminded me of past times when food was tasty and... More

We almost had lunch at the restaurant at Veste Oberhaus, but this place came quite recommended for a great traditional German meal and I am quite happy we settled here as the price was much more reasonable than the other restaurant for the same fare. The menu is pretty comprehensive and the daily offer is much more extensive than most... More

I ordered the pork schnitzel and had two escalopes with potato salad, vegetables and other things which I forget now but I remember my plate was full! This cost about £6 and was as delicious as it was inexpensive It gets very busy here so best to book. There is an ice cream parlour nearby and the views from the... More

We asked our guide where we could get a lunch with local cuisine and atmosphere and she suggested the Bauhaus which was a favorite of hers. We were the only tourists there and so enjoyed soaking up the local atmosphere and really experiencing Passau. The food was great unfortunately though they were out of potato soup. This is a great... Traditional German food at a reasonable price can be had here. It's a block back from the wharf so it's not nearly as touristy as some of the other restaurants in the general area. We had lunch here at the recommendation of the woman at the tourist info desk across from the train station. Although it's fairly cozy, there was... More

No complaints, portions large. English menu card available. Very busy in late May with tables at a premium related to wet weather and outside dining being off. Few tourists as noted. Good for people watching.

A small little pub but with great food and ambiance. Best Austrian Potato soup I have ever had. The goulash was hard to beat as the main course, and the beer from one of the local brewers was the perfect accompaniment for an excellent lunch as we then continued our trip down the Danube. Should you find yourself in Passau,... More
