A short walk from the riverboat docking station, Cafe Simon (Confiserie) was a sweet place to stop and see a gingerbread demonstration during our recent Viking River Cruise. We stocked up on containers of Lebkuchen to share with our family back home and were amazed by the huge selection of gourmet chocolates that were available as well. When in Passau,... More

We visited Cafe Simon as part of our cruise tour through Passau including demonstrations of gingerbread making from Mr. Simon and his son. Learning about the tradition of gingerbread and evolution of recipes from medieval times to today. An excellent cafe/coffee shops with many treats to enjoy. They have menus in English and all the staff we talked with are... More

We got a gingerbread demonstration from Mr. Simon and his son we got to taste the evolution of their recipes. It was interesting as they moved from homey as the sweetener to molasses to sugar. They make much more than gingerbread. Everything was great. Nice staff and family.

I had the opportunity to visit Cafe Simon on Dec. 3 as part of a Viking River Cruise. We were given a special presentation by the 3rd and 4th generation of the Simon family showing the three types of ginger bread (Lebkuchen). The original recipe using only honey was my favorite. If you are on a diet don't go thru... More

We had a gingerbread making talk from the charming owner Her Simon (arranged by Viking Cruises), which was super. The cafe shop serves yummy pasteries etc.

This is a great little cafe. Get here right after the church concert because it will fill up fast. You will have to fight the locals for seats as well. The food is wonderful and the service was quick and attentive. The sweets are something every town in America should have available.

This cafe serves both light food and coffee/cake. Its location makes it nice for tourists, but the quality of the food is high and well worth a stop. We had soup and sandwiches. My Griessknoedel soup was well-made and very tasty. We chatted with our neighbors, whose cake and coffee were also excellent. Prices I found were a touch high,... More

We were in port for just a few hours whilst on a river cruise and were recommended this cafe for chocolates. It was slightly raining and we decided to get a treat and a table for shelter. We ended up having the best coffee and strudel of the trip. The chocolates were luscious...rich...decadent. Everything you want in chocolate. I believe... More
