A toast in the Ghost

The Heilig Geist, Passau, was founded in1358, which,as far as longevity goes, makes it one of the oldest surviving restaurants in the world. It has its own street, and the delightful Passau Old Town is fairly small, so everything is walkable, and easy to find. I took my 16 year-old son and his 17 yr... read more

Two of us visited on a cold rainy evening. My companion chose to try venison in a mushroom cream sauce. She had never tried venison before but enjoyed her meal very much. It was her best meal of our 4 day trip in Germany and Austria. I opted for a Greek salad ( although there were several other vegetarian options... More

First, the atmosphere is very nice, cozy, though a bit chilly. But the fireplace is a nice touch. Since I am very particular about my food, it is not easy to find something to please me. However, the server was amazingly patient, listened carefully, catered to all my needs. The meal was excellent. I really love this place. In fact,... More

Historic restaurant in the centre of Passau. We had a relaxing family meal - three adults and three children (aged five to ten). The restaurant staff were very welcoming and accommodated the children well. The rooms have vaulted ceilings, wooden panelling and impressive chandeliers. Portion size was good, and pricing reasonable.

While visiting Christmas markets, we made special plans to experience the local culture and traditional food. We were not disappointed. This restuarant fulfilled every expectation. The staff was friendly and accommodating, the venison and pork dishes were excellent. Ask for their special dessert, because it isn't listed on their menu. Insider secret, plum dumpling with ice cream. The local wine... More

The restaurant is undergorund, the bricks of the Wall are historical. It is a compact restaurant you feel ok. The foods are good. The service quality is good enough, higher than expected in Germany. Although the food I asked was not in the menu they prepared a vegetarian vegetable pasta with oliveoil. Thanks it was delicious. You can prefer upside... More

I got the name of this restaurant from Trip Advisor before we left on our Viling River Cruise and I am so glad I did. The food was fantastic. My husband and I always order different from each other so I got to taste what he had order also. This time we ate with friends so we all shared with... More

This place has been around since 1528 and can be hard to find, but once you do you'll discover a delightful place to eat. It offers a number of true Baverian meals and we sampled several of them. Lots of food; no complaints. Wait staff was very efficient. Prices reasonsible.

This was a really lovely restaurant. Unfortunately we had already eaten but it looked so lovely we went in for a drink. Food looked so good we had a desert. Main courses looked outstanding. Prices were quite high (Passau is a bit over priced due to the tour boats and rich Americans who stay overnight before and after their cruises)... More
