After you have done the Hoffbrau House, try an alternative local more real version. Not in the centre of town, but very close to the Holiday Inn which was good for us. This is a much smaller place than other bier kellers but still much bigger than most UK pubs. We went for Sunday lunch and the place was full... More

If you want the bierkeller experience try this venue. It is out of the main city centre area hence does not get as busy a lot of the time. It is located across the river and is easy to reach via tram 19 or underground trains U4 and U5 to Max Weber Platz. A short walk along Innere Wiener Street... More

We were recommended by the hotel we were staying and while it is a huge interior - the service and food were excellent. We bought souvenirs mugs at half the price of the city center. Two of our party had fish and it was really good.

Much better than the Hofbräuhaus in town for a real meal and drinks. Great beer garden out back under the trees. Food was great and Hofbräu beer is hard to beat.

Very big interior, in traditional Bavarian style. It was very quiet when we went on a weekday. We were given an English menu, and there was a good choice of typical Bavarian food. Picked a mixed pork platter, consisting of pork leg, belly pork and duck leg. It came with a potato and bread dumpling and the best red cabbage... More

Arrived here on our first night in Munich. The hotel recommended this place for authentic traditional food. Yes, they delivered. Not the best but good & a good value. Didn't have reservations so they sat us at a table with fellow Americans & we ended up making new friends. Such a fun atmosphere! Will most likely go back before we... More

The Hofbraukeller is the sister (brother?) restaurant and beer hall to the famous Hofbrauhaus. It serves the same beer and a slightly more limited menu. But I prefer this place because it's less touristy and friendlier. Start with the beer - as far as I can tell, it's exactly the same selection. Almost all beer available in Munich is good... More
