OK, the lion statues are a bit tacky, but it was a really fun experience. I ate here twice, once for lunch and once for supper. The second time, we brought our own cheeses and wurst and just bought beer. The management set up a big screen TV and we watched Germany outplay the USA in a World Cup match.... More

As you expect that close to the Bavaria film studios, Waldwirtschaft is a top choice of stars, VIPs and wannabes. So, I would called the audience "colorful" and "interesting" and as in any Bavarian Restaurant, there is always a few tables for regulars ("Stammtisch"). Don't expect the service to be great or very friendly - this is partly due to... More

Unfortunately a typical "our rules are more important than the customer" biergarten. I was engaged aggressively by one of the servers for hypothetically blocking his way with my bicycle (though I was sat only a few metres away). His boss was no better. Spoilt the evening. Management needs to think about who they employ and explain the basics of customer... More

A longstanding retreat from the city, WaWi is a little inconvenient but well worth the trip. (S7 to Grosshesselohe and about 1 km along Kastanienalle to Georg-Kalb str.). We walked along the Isar (trails on both sides of the river from Thalkirchen). Well prepared cuisine (perch in mushroom cream sauce a typical seasonal entree, excellent) in what has to be... More

Agree it's well worth the journey on the S7; you can go the other way from Max Weber Pltz on the 15 or 25 tram up tp Menterschwaig and find the rail bridge with the footbridge underneath, but we got lost the time we went that way (and it was raining). Best is to go the GHH S7 station and... More

When you like good Jazz Music - come here! From Munich City it is great to go here by bike (30 - 40min). It is a typical beer garden, you can bring your own food or buy some good meals there. From Spring to Autumn there is Jazz Music all day and night.

Having read the Beer Drinkers Guide to Munich I decided to visit this Biergarten on a Saturday afternoon in July and totally loved it. I took the S-Bahn from Munich Hbf to Grosshesselohe Isartalbahnof and then walked for about 10 minutes. On arriving I found a lively beer garden basked in sunshine. The band were playing a great mix of... More

Make sure to catch their jazz on Sundays. Great food, great location, great place to being the kids and let them run around. Don't forget to play a round of mini-golf. Free wifi

This is one of the most beautiful beer gardens Munich has to offer. It is not easy to reach but if you enjoy walking I recommend talking the Tram to Grosshesseloher Brücke, then walk over the Bridge itself, take the left walkway up and go left at your first chance. It will take you about an hour but you will... More

Every time we are in Munich, we go here. It's beautiful. Large Kastanian trees, good jazz music, mixed company and not totally tourist infected (though we, of course are tourists). The beer is great, the food you can buy at the self-service part is typical Bavarian fare--not elaborate, but fine. You can also bring your own food (this is, after... More
