Perfect stop for pastry and coffee

Don't hit the market without going here first for a soft, warm schmalznudel and a coffee. You won't regret it.

Unexpected cold weather hampered our stroll around the quaint town center. Decided to stop for hot cocoa and the famous "schmalznudel". It's a fluffy light fried dough pastry served with a dash of sugar. The cafe was decorated with "German" quaintness of Easter/Spring decors. It's a definitely a local treat to enjoy.

go to this small, inconspicuous and low-profile coffee place that serves some very traditional German snack called «schmalznudel» (and others) and obviously grab some... no need to sit in if the weather is good... (I was recommend it by a local)

Was in the vicinity of Viktualienmarkt and visited this cafe. Heard of the nice Schmalznudel and surely must try. Besides a warm cozy environment, the staffs were friendly. We had a nice coffee and hot Schmalznudel with sugar. Simple but tasted excellent.

A friend in Munich tipped us off to this wonderful little bit of Bavarian heaven here near the marketplace in downtown Munich where they make the most delicious and amazing Schmalznudel fresh & hot before your very eyes. I haven't eaten a normal donut since. Krispy Kreme could learn a thing or two here...the only problem is that I have... More

This coffee place is an institution for the locals. Freshly-made schmalznudle, a fried pastry served warm, is a must if in Viktualienmarkt area. The price to go is cheaper than staying at the coffee place. Plan to spend about 6 euros for a coffe and a pastry. Or, just under 2 euros if you take one to-go. If you made... More

The highlight is a deep-fried crispy dough fritter that's coated with Icing sugar. The texture is light and fluffy and one may not be enough. There are people who line up to buy them for take away and this is cheaper than dining there at the cafe. The atmosphere in the cafe is worth the extra price charged on the... More

Found this gem on TripAdvisor and we easily found it but we've been around Munich a few times so we were familiar with the area. We just landed at the airport and thought we could "revitalize" ourselves with a Schmalznudel and coffee while we walked around the city. We all got the sugar coated WONDERFUL warm ones. Unfortunately couldn't get... More

Small cafe near our hotel that was packed from open to close. We went in to see what all the fuss was about. We had coffee and a schmalznnudel and it was a pleasant surprise. Like a crispy sweet donut, perfect snack after a long afternoon of walking the old town of Munich.

Stopped at the Schmalznudel for a coffee and the famous pastry. Like stated many times, very nice place with good atmosphere. Our waiter was super friendly, easy to recommend.
