Friends and I ate lunch here on St Stephen's day (Dec 26) 2014. We were happy the Vetter was open (since most of Germany is closed for the 3 Christmas holidays) but were so disappointed with the food. The beer was fine, but then again, it's hard to find a bad beer in Germany. Ambiance was lively but felt overly... More

My visit was a business occasion, on a cold February night. Beer is fantastic as you can touch copper tanks where it is stored. Food is typical German and rich. There is always plentiful people to make that place lively. Everything you can expect from a brewhouse !

You want to try the best of German beer and food in a great atmosphere then do not pass out the Vetter. Excellent service along with amazing beer and good quality basic German cuisine. Used to bring colleagues here regularly when we lived in Germany 20 years ago and I have to say coming back today the staff were still... More

We had a different dinner at this place. My husband had an excellent beer that is only made in Christmas and I had a beautiful dry riesling that we ate with venison sausages that were great. Afterwards we asked for home made sausages: I cannot say they were not good, they just were more for German taste. So my recomendation... More

Went on a busy evening between Christmas & New Year. Great location just off the Market Square. Place was full yet staff were attentive and helpful. We were a large group and had different main meals, none disappointed. As before the bratkartoffeln (sauteed potatoes), sauerkraut and sausages were great, hearty and tasty but not low in calories. The Schnitzels also... More

After our Heidelberg Castle tour, we got dropped off at the Christmas Market in the town square area around noon. Our guide told us they have the strongest beer in the world. Maybe they just opened, the place was very empty. We sat at the bar, only ordered couple small plates and beer. The appetizers were OK, the beer was... More

Sharing a table is great fun. Although I don't care for beer (had a glass of good German wine) the atmosphere was pleasant. No one rushed us to get out. There were ten at our large square table and I met two young women from Taiwan. Interestingly, the students sent back a full round of beer because it didn't meet... More

Without a doubt this restaurant was the favourite restaurant for myself and family when we spent 2 weeks in Heidelberg over Christmas. It has an atmosphere all of it's own and although very popular is not what I'd describe as a tourist place at all. It's very authentic and the food, beers and service are absolutely excellent.

Vetter is my favourite brewery chain in Germany. Situated in old town close to the river and the castle it is a great water hole to stop at. The copper swans are next to you while you enjoy the local brewed light beer. Fantastic flavour light and enjoyable. I would also recommend one of the cast iron pans filled with... More
