Extensive Menu

Very extensive English menu (the German menu is even larger!), with many regional specialties. I have tried a different regional specialty dish each visit, and have not been disappointed. Be sure to try the pumpkin soup when it is season as it is quite good. The restaurant has a beautiful wooden... read more

Four of us visited this restaurant and were shown into a room to the left away from the main room so unfortunately we couldn't get an idea of atmosphere as we were the only ones sitting there! We ordered three bowls of tomato soup, one onion, unfortunate manner by the lady who took the order. Small bowls, onion soup was... More

Went here twice in 3 days. Once for dinner, and once for dessert. It was the best home made german food I had on the trip (7 days travelling). It really felt home cooked with lots of flavour and massive dishes. The staff was very easy going and friendly. They seem to care about what they are doing. Little bit... More

Friendly staff helps with menu and personal taste. Food is good and the decoration is cozy and beautiful, lets you feel you are deep in Germany. I had been here 18 years ago and was anxious to come back. Can´t wait to go back for Schweineländchen!

Please note that I am not a big fan of german food, but I find lots of dishes delicious, despite of the traditionally large amount of fat in meals. Normally I find both steaks and schnitzels very juicy and tasty at german restaurants. This place was a terrible exception. I have to say that among 4 ordered meals not even... More

We went to Zum Spreisel on our last night in Germany a few days ago. We were in a party of 11, and we all enjoyed our food! The food was excellent, as was the service. The food was hearty, traditional German fare, with a few Greek recipes thrown in for good measure. I would recommend Zum Spreisel to others... More

Must have been to this restaurant 20 times during 2014 so it's about time I wrote a review. I have worked in Heidelberg for 7 years now and only found this place less than a year ago. Food always good never had a bad meal. The lady owner is a great host and always greets you with a smile and... More

Maria's "Wirsthaus zum Spreisel" is hands down the best restaurant in Heidelberg! My parents have been eating at Maria's for over 10 years and they took me here on my visit! The food is superb, the ambiance is delightful and the service feels like home! If you are ever to come to Heidelberg Wirsthaus zum Spreisel is a must! I... More

From our first meal 10 years ago to our latest meal tonight ( Dec 26,2014), Maria has served us the finest authentic German meals we have encountered on our decade of trips through the region. We have yet to have been served a meal that was less than total perfection. If you find yourselves near the Old Bridge with an... More

The food here is absolutely wonderful, and the atmosphere was just perfect. Our waitress was very pleasant and helpful, and the food was just perfect. I live in Germany, and had a friend here from the states, so I was very happy we happened upon such a great place. Most of the other tables seemed to be occupied by locals,... More
