Lived up to the good reviews!

Had dinner here last August after reading all the positives reviews. The food was great, plentiful and excellent value. We sat out the back which isn't actually open to the elements, just seems to be a Perspex roof over a kind of bamboo wall. People were smoking in this room but politely stopped... read more

go to the Schnitzelbank! The benches and tables have been carved into by what looks like centuries of restaurant-goers. The food is authentic German-style: Schnitzel, of course, but also Spätzle and Rostbraten with potato dumplings, Leberknödel. The wine is delightful, you can ask for something that comes from the region. Beer-drinkers will also be more than satisfied. Try something you've... More

Evidently very popular with local residents, Schnitzelbank is located on an alley that runs north from Hauptstrasse. The food is good and the barman/waiter genial. Prices were about the same as elsewhere in this area (12-18 euros for a main course). However, it is just too popular for its limited size. Every table was crammed, German-style, with diners who mostly... More

We ate here on our first night in Heidelberg and soon realized that nothing else would come close to the amazing time we had! They were already fully booked when we dropped by to make a reservation, but Frank told us to come by at 7:30 anyway and he would make something happen for us. We arrived and enjoyed a... More

The Schnitzelbank is a cosy (some would say small) but very busy restaurant. The staff is cheery and helpful and managed to get us two places. Food was great, as German Hausmansskost is supposed to be. As a bodega they only have one sort of beer on offer, but it was Tannezäpfle, so that was more than fine.

Prepare to share antique table space with neighbours. There are maybe 5 tables, and people share space. This is common in Gernamy, and you can strike up a pleasant conversation with anyone around you. The wine is nice, the service is prompt. The garlic schnitzel is topped with garlic which may not have been cooked. It is quite an adventure,... More

As my friend and I asked around for recommendations for a casual yet authentic German restaurant, and everyone pointed us to Schnitzelbank and I am so happy that they did. Schnnitzelbank, is very small and rustic. When we walked in, I felt like I was stepping back in time. The food was AMAZING, the portions were huge, I wasn't even... More

This is authentic Heidelberg. Good food and good wine. Fair mix of tourists and locals. Place is small and can get quite crowed. You usually have to sit with a few others but that adds to the air of the place.

Unbelievable menu, I think there were about 120 different schnitzels! Very rustic -- felt like I stepped back in time about 50 years!

I tried the Wiener Schnitzel and was just great ! I live in a very Germany suburb in my home town and they do great food, but that was just special.
