Authentic, Interesting Menu

We enjoyed our meal very much. It was more costly than we usually expect, but the menu was very unusual for a Hotel Restaurant. Venison, Blood Sausage etc. Very German. The locals were there, good sign.

Staying at the hotel, I was surprised that this highly rated restaurant was right before my eyes. I reserved a table for dinner. The restaurant is warm and comfortable and traditionally furnished with a limited number of tables. Service was polite, friendly and efficient. The menu was a refreshing approach to traditional cuisine. The wine menu is good and reasonably... More

Exceptionally good food and great service at this hidden gem in the Old Town of Heidelberg. I had the lamb with lentils curry and it was prepared to perfection. I would definitely go back to that restaurant.

We ate in the first night we stayed at the hotel. We had oxtail soup, a meat course, shared a dessert of plums and kiwi sorbet, and each drunk a large glass of local red wine (Legembre?) and a bottle of mineral water. All were delicious and not heavy like traditional German fare. We particularly appreciated the care the waitress... More

We stayed in their hotel and ate here one evening with friends. Unlike the hustle and bustle of the Hauptstrasse tourist traps, this is a quiet, friendly restaurant with helpful service and a modernised, lighter take on German cuisine just a few metres off the Haupstrasse. Octopus salad starter was delicious, and pork filet with goat cheese and various vegetables... More

Had dinner here on August 6th with my wife and daughter. The food was very good and the service was excellent. It was not traditional heavy German food but had German influences. We thoroughly enjoyed the dinner and recommend this restaurant.

After wandering around finding our bearings we popped in for lunch, sat outside and had very tasty schnitzel. Very relaxed atmosphere and staff friendly and attentive.

Restaurants in tourist traps like Heidelberg so often disappoint to it is a relief always to find one which takes its task seriously. Backmulde does that - it is a traditional German restaurant in an attractive old building. I like this kind of cuisine, which has strong roots in tradition but which also recognizes that things have moved on a... More

I stayed for a three days nad I loved this thiss little hotel. The owner was helpful and friendly. The breakfast (which is included) was terriffic and served early. I did not eat at the attached restaurant, but it always looked busy. It was withing walking distance of anything you wanted to do in Heidelberg. It was relatively low price... More

This was our final meal in Germany, so we were hoping for greatness. (We did not get it) The pea soup we had for appetizers was too salty, while the cod was good, and the lamb sausage and shoulder I had was very good. I second all of the other TA comments - while this place is not of the... More
