Not as good as I remembered

This was our third evening meal at L'Ourson over a period of about one year. On our two previous visits, we were extremely impressed by the presentation and originality of the combination of flavours and textures. This time, we were somewhat less impressed. Great, great, great. From the beginning I wasn't glad. Everything seemed to be too sophisticated, but after appetizers I knew, why we had to wait 2 weeks for booking... very tasty, small plates with good wine took me to the heaven...

I was lucky enough to visit all of these places during the first week of November - Maison Villemanzy, La Garrotte, Mère Brazier, Chez Mounier, L’Orson qui Boit. I feel I can provide good feedback and comparisons of the various places. This was our first of the places we visited and had dutifully made a reservation a full 31 days... More

Well, what to say about this restaurant. A lot of friend of mine had been telling me that it was amazing and I was genuinely curious about this one. I finally had the occasion to go and was first surprised by the menu unique. It's OK for me I eat everything and it was actually quite cool to not have... More

Went as part of small work meeting, and when in Lyon they always call ahead to let restaurants know that I'm a vegetarian. No problem for the staff here and I'm so glad we ate there. The food was among the best I've ever eaten, especially the main course I had veg tempura fused with a creamy puree underneath it.... More

This is an excellent restaurant. It is located in the Red Cross district close to the subway stop. Communication with the staff was not that easy because it was a combination of French with a Japanese accent but we made it. The service is friendly and very good. We enjoyed the food. It tasted good and the presentations were quite... More

We literally tracked down one of the owners to try and get in during our holiday visit. She graciously made room for us for a lunch seating on christmas eve. I had read a lot of positive press for this place and it was #1 on my list while we were in Lyon and we weren't getting any response via... More

Three years ago I wrote a review of l'Ourson titled 'A Wonderful Choice' and last we visited again. It is still wonderful. For €32 each you can eat a superb meal with complete confidence. There are two starters, two mains and two desserts plus extra for a cheese course. Entrees were a pork ravioli course with a creamy pepper sauce,... More

A great meal worth reserving for 3 weeks in advance! The menu is modern and creative and only 32 euros for a 4 course meal! Started with a house apératif: plum liqour which was sooo good and not too strong. We had a corn cream soup for the first course which was amazing and had full rich flavor as well... More

Hidden on a side street near the Hotel de Ville, this small franco-japonaise restaurant is a jewel. I'm really reluctant to share it as it is already too popular with a mixed crowd of tourists and locals. For 18 euros, our 3 course lunch was delicious and elegantly presented (worthy of a 1 michelin star). This is not a bouchon!... More
