I just went there and the service it was just awfull. The menu is just in french and the waitress didnt even try to translate it. We just have to guess. Not recommended for tourists, maybe is just that Lyon doesnt need tourists.

We went for a traditional meal in Lyon. We were well received and the food had a good value for money! However, desserts were not super and salad lyonnaise was a bit salty.

Being a non-meat eater in a town renown for their Bouchons I knew I would perhaps struggle to find somewhere special to eat. After reading a great review of this restaurant on Tripadvisor I was determined to try it out. The waiter was very patient with me as I don't speak very much French and after explaining that I don't... More

We had headed out on foot to one of the two major restaurant locations in Lyon . We ended up outside La Mere Jean . It was full inside and out and we asked when or if a table might be available and were told there might be one within a few minutes . Shortly we were shown to a... More

Perfect to taste the local food in a nice, local, not too touristic atmosphere. Centrally located, in a small street full of other restaurants. It was difficult to choose, but finally we went for La mére Jean upon recommendation of local friends. It's better to book, since they have only a few (4) tables outside and not much more inside... We enjoyed lovely service and a splendid meal. The proprietor was very welcoming and even came to have a chat with us about our menu choices. I would recommend this for quiet evening meal.

Very small typical "bouchon" restaurant. Only a few tables, better to book. Very good traditional food at very reasonable prices. Best for lunch.

I ordered the quenelle lyonnais and for €12 I got a large fluffy dumpling cooked in a delicious creamy sauce AND a plate of gratin dauphinois AND bread. Was really good, very filling and well worth €12. Very cosy so book ahead for dinner or get in before 1230 at lunch.

went here at lunch time and Loved it! It was hot during our trip, so everybody sat outside, but we wanted to experience the atmosphere so went inside: cozy, time-worp: back to the '30's of the twentieth century, you can almost feel Mother Jean looking over the shoulder of the waiters. The meal was good and cheap, homely, traditional food.... More

Fantastic meal in a great bouchon. We have been living in Lyon for almost 5 months, and this was amongst the best meals we've had. A typical bouchon, with about 10-12 tables, down-to-Earth traditional Lyonnaise food. Fast service, which was great because we had our two small kids with us (full meal in about 2 hours). I tried a bit... More
