Awesome lunch

Make a booking! This tiny gem of a bouchon is worth it. This was our 3rd bouchon and it delivered. We had a salad lyonnaise and the quenelles. It was delicious. Restaurant fills up every meal the chef and waiters were hopping. Contrary to others comments the staff were friendly, but I'm in France... read more

I loved the vibe of this tiny bouchon, it was a nice experience. However, the waitresses were a bit impolite and not helpful while asking questions about the menu. Also, they made us share plates with other tables... Maybe it is part of the culture of a bouchon but I didn't enjoy that. A plus is the good quantity of... More

I've been here because the restaurant was recommended by a friend that lived in Lyon. The place is quite small and is located in a street with plenty restaurants, but I sincerely this one is special. We were in four and we decided to order a closed menu for €16 with starter, main course and dessert. I highly recommend the... More

Reservations absolute must have. Tiny place, packed every night. Traditional hearty and calories laden Lyonnaise food. And LOTS of it. Cheap! Dinner for 2 = 30 euros or less. Add 10 - 15 Euros for a bottle of wine. You'll practically sit in your neighbor diner's lap. Extreme tight & tiny dining room. Ridiculous by American standards. Not a place... More

La Mère Jean, a typical boucon lyonnais, is located in the Rue des marronniers, a few steps from Place Bellecour, in the heart of the Presqu'île district of Lyon. The street is a sort of restaurant row and, on first view, would appear to be lined with tourist traps. But La Mère Jean Lyon is the real thing, serving up... More

I was looking for a nice lunch on my last day in France. This little cafe was perfect! I ordered salades lyonnaise, fricasse poulet crema, and fruit. The food was beautifully prepared and presented. Standouts were the small mushroom cake with the entree, the cream sauce on the chicken and the refreshing fruit with a surprising mint simple syrup. Worth... More

A group of us visited this restaurant on a mid-week evening. The restaurant was busy and we were very lucky to get a table as we walked in. Tucked away on a busy street of tourist restaurants La Mere Jean would be easy to miss, but gives a true flavour of Lyon. It is fair to say that the decor... More

If you wish to have a taste of local food in Lyon, this is the place to go. This has the feel of being invited at a local's table. The food is honest home cooking, very simple but very tasty. The restaurant is tiny so it is important to book a table in advance. If you are looking for something... More

went there with colleagues and we had a nice time. the food is great and traditionnal I would say the only "bad point" is the smile of the waiter, he should have lost it in the kitchen, very rude person nice wine anyway!
