Good Food, Good Service, Good Ambiance

Had dinner on a hot Friday evening. We both elected to have the degustation - a set menu for €36 a piece. Both started with foie gras served in two different ways. Mine was with Artichoke. The foie gras was buttery, delightful. For the main course, a bavette and a cote du veau. The veal was... read more

Like an earlier reviewer we were recommended this by a local. But the food was only 'OK' - straightforward, just about acceptable but certainly not approaching Good with a capital G, let alone any higher rating. The service was quite offhand from one waiter, and well-intentioned but amateur from a couple of younger ones. Overall given that we were in... More

This is a nice restaurant in a street full of them. So not always easy to choose. The food is classical Lyon style which can be a bit heavy and almost always contains lots of porc (rather good though). Many dishes are made with fresh ingredients and local produce and so can take a little longer than normally. But at... More

This is the second time I've patronized this restaurant and the first time I've reviewed it. The food was very good both times and well presented. The plat du jour starts at 17 euros. This menu comes to you on a chalkboard brought by your table. The regular menu had three course meals at 20, 30 and 36 euros. Good... More

This restaurant was recommended to me by a local . My expectations were obviously too high . The service was mediocre to bad . The food as well . I would not go back . I wish that I had done my own research . Some others in our group went to DENISE AND Daniele , and raved about it..

While you may discount the location( a touristy street), you cannot discount the food, service or ambience. A great Bouchon in every way. The quenelle was scrumptious, served on a hot cast iron skillet. The chicken was "the best I have ever eaten" according to my extremely discerning wife. Our waiter was prompt, friendly, but not intrusive. Atmosphere suitably rustic.... More

This restaurant is on a very lively street of cafes, restaurants and (I think) bars, just a half a block from the Place Bellecour. Our hotel concierge recommended and we were glad he did and made a reservation. It was a warm Saturday night in October and the entire street was filled with people (both tourists and residents) out for... More

If you want the authentic bouchon dining experience in Lyon, Le Comptoir des Marronniers is your restaurant. It offers up great, well-prepared, old-style Lyon fare at a good price. We enjoyed excellent escargots, frog's legs (redolent of butter) and quenelles all beautifully presented (not to mention the wonderful desserts). It was a very satisfying feast. And, on top of it... The one star is for the waiter...nice guy, trying hard. I won't elaborate too much, except to say our food arrived cold. We sent it back and it came back warmer. Overall, everything was under seasoned and lacked flavour . We know our way around French menus and restaurants do it wasn't that we ordered badly....they cook badly. Even the... More

I had the duck tartare with truffle oil on the 30 euro menu. This was a very small portion of flavourless duck on a bed of tasteless lettuce. My wife's steak and my Rognons both arrived cool, but with super hot potato au gratin, and cold vegetables. The Rognons lacked flavour. My wife's steak was very tough and stringy with... More
