This restaurant is on a very lively street of cafes, restaurants and (I think) bars, just a half a block from the Place Bellecour. Our hotel concierge recommended and we were glad he did and made a reservation. It was a warm Saturday night in October and the entire street was filled with people (both tourists and residents) out for... More

If you want the authentic bouchon dining experience in Lyon, Le Comptoir des Marronniers is your restaurant. It offers up great, well-prepared, old-style Lyon fare at a good price. We enjoyed excellent escargots, frog's legs (redolent of butter) and quenelles all beautifully presented (not to mention the wonderful desserts). It was a very satisfying feast. And, on top of it... The one star is for the waiter...nice guy, trying hard. I won't elaborate too much, except to say our food arrived cold. We sent it back and it came back warmer. Overall, everything was under seasoned and lacked flavour . We know our way around French menus and restaurants do it wasn't that we ordered badly....they cook badly. Even the... More

I had the duck tartare with truffle oil on the 30 euro menu. This was a very small portion of flavourless duck on a bed of tasteless lettuce. My wife's steak and my Rognons both arrived cool, but with super hot potato au gratin, and cold vegetables. The Rognons lacked flavour. My wife's steak was very tough and stringy with... More

This proved to be a bit of a disappointment after reading good TA reviews. Service was quite friendly and efficient, however the quality of the food and the cooking was below average. The setting was reasonably attractive and, overall, it wasn't bad value for money but it isn't somewhere we'd want to revisit.

It helps I'm sure that my husband speaks pretty good French so we didn't fall into any ordering problems as other reviewers did. We were slightly baffled by the paying system - you have to go to the till but I didn't realise that for quite a while! The food was of a very high standard. I couldn't fault my... More

Enjoyable restaurant, no more, no less. Duck tartare was promising but the salad on which it was served didn't do it favors and the advertised truffle oil was not obvious enough. The Bresse chicken was tasty with the mushroom sauce that was just a bit too salty. Dessert was an average chocolate moeilleux. Staff was friendly but around our terras... More

We usually tend to go to another bouchon across the road. Since our favorite was not serving late lunches, we opted for the comptoir des marroniers. We chose the menu Lyonnais at 19 euros. The "pressee de tete de cochon" was just marvellous with a tingy vinaigrette, shavings of radishes and spring salad with beetroot. My daughter salade lyonnaise was... More

The food in this restaurant is very good, typical of Lyon. It deserves all the nominations it got in various guides (Gault&Millau, Michelin...). I don't have anything more to say : fabulous !
