Restaurant La Caleche is well placed on the main Chamonix high street and as such it gets very busy. It does indeed serve 'Savoyard specialities' such as Fondue, Tartiflette, Croziflette etc., yet you can find these pretty much anywhere in the Chamonix Valley for lot more reasonable prices and of a much better quality! The place also feels a little... More

Reading other reviews it looks like locals do enjoy this restaurant, which indeed serves local Savoie dishes such as fondue and some other specialities, including huge piece of cheese cut by a heat cutter at your plate or steaks you fry on a grill at your table. It's huge and it gets quite crowded during the evenings. I really minded... More

This restaurant had a décor of every antique from the area. Wherever you looked there was something interesting. We ordered fondue, dipping local meats and tasty breads in a very enjoyable hot melted cheese. This mixed with a lovely wine by the name of Lisa was just what we needed after hiking and exploring the mountains around Chamonix. Give yourself... More

We were traveling with a small group, so this place was pre chosen for us, as was the menu. We had meats, raclette cheese, and potatoes. What a fun time we had with our group. We used the raclette cooker (cheese melter). So glad to have this experience. Will definitely have to try this when we find the proper cheese... More

We were in Chamonix on a Great Rail Journey Holiday and this Restaurant was included in the Programme. Whilst we are well used to group fare, we were totally unprepared for the delights that awaited us. The quantities were more than sufficient for all. The meal was savoury tartlets, Beef in wine stew, with sliced potato in cheese sauce and... More

This is a cozy restaurant although you might possibly feel it is somewhat overcrowded if full. The place does have a lot of ambiance with old cooking utensils and other "stuff" dangling from the ceiling beams. You see this type of decoration a lot in the US (i.e., Cracker Barrel, etc) and we thought it was very nicely done here.... More

We arrived in Chamonix after a fairly long journey and gave ourselves time to have a long walk around town and choose a restaurant for dinner. The menu looked lovely and right up our street and the ratings on Trip Advisor drew us to return that evening to eat. We were somewhat disappointed. The restaurant is lovely inside and as... More

The food was terrific; the service friendly and caring and the atmosphere was just what you want in a French Mountain town.

We visited La Caleche as part of a large group and despite this, the staff did an amazing job serving us all at the same time with delicious hot food. We had quiche to start, followed by beef bourgignon with dauphinoise potatoes , followed by parfait. The place is a bit like an antique shop with curios in every corner... More
