We had a table outside under the substantial awning with heat lamps. We ate the set menu at €31.50 and had duck breast and foie gras salad, then the Pierre Chaud (hot stone self-cooking chicken, beef and veal) and tarte tatin/Poire William sorbet - great food and the waiting staff even sorted out a birthday flare for my brother's Tarte... My girlfriend and I came here despite having read previous poor/ mixed tripadvisor reviews as I wanted her to try one of my favourite french dishes, fondue bourginonne (a cheese free strip steak dish that you cool yourself with skewers in hot oil) for lunch our last day in France. This was a massive mistake and this place should be... More

When u go to this place remember u r in the alps and the people are at different pace of life. Order a drink and wait patiently while they present u with culinary delights. Try everything on the menu if u have the time. Unfortunately I'm not a fan of frog legs but tried it anyway...maybe I'll try it in... More

Le Monchu is nice & cosy as well as reasonably priced. We had meat on a hot stone that we grilled ourselves at the table. Sadly the quality of the meat was not ideal, meaning that the resultant cooked meat was below expectations. The first courses were nice, as was the wine the waiter recommended. Sadly, apart from the wine... More

Fondue and meat at stone were great, but unfortunatelly, the service was horrible. Maybe you should try another one or cross your fingers.

I visited this place with my girlfriend during our one day stay at Chamonix. The restaurant inside is very nice - rustic, wooden chairs and tables, nice old decorations. We decided to go for menu and house white wine. Wine was really good for a house wine. We had salads, local sausage with puré, some dish with cheese and bread... More

It is a nice place to experience the food from the region. Aparently there is a tale behind the name "Monchu" means the tourists around this region. Something like "lupis" in New Zealand. I was there with a friend and I think it was a good value for money.

Had a meal at Le Monchu last Sunday night. I was with a large group of friends and one waitress looked after us all evening. Excellent service and lovely food.

My night was spoiled by some very arrogant and even ignorant service by the staff. I'm not sure why the staff were so unpleasant to me and my daughter but clearly our faces did not fit. The food was OK at best and overpriced for what it was.

Service was very good with friendly staff. Menu is extensive and fairly typical for the area. We chose the duck, which was cooked to our taste. Sides were nicely cooked, but a bit bland. However, the orange jus compensated. The deserts were pleasant and rounded off a more than acceptable meal. A close call between average and good. For the... More
