Good but not exceptional

Le Gros Ventre is on the waterfront in Mourillon just along the road from the harbour and close to the castle. It's a buzzy little place and we ate outside in May. The restaurant staff was very friendly and welcoming. Though expensive, the dinner was delicious, with many classic French dishes to choose from.

We reserved a table for Sunday lunch with my wife's parents to celebrate a special birthday. My wife selected the restaurant based on her local knowledge of being raised in Toulon and previous experience of the restaurant from many years ago. This small, quiet restaurant is well located opposite Fort Saint-Louis with views of the bay. Like another reviewer, I... More

We ate here having looked at other restaurants in the area and we're so pleased we did! Plenty of locals eating in the restaurant and plenty having the set menus. Such friendly, yet efficient staff too! We tucked into the "Menu Poisson" at 30 Euros per person and it was great value. Sublime smoked salmon, accompanied with kumquat toasts, followed... More

Situated on the beachfront it stands out in terms of quality and value from the other places. Full of locals - always a good sign. May need to book. Recommended.

We booked at this restaurant which was in walking distance from our Best Western hotel. We ate outside in a protected area right next to the main road along the shore. What looked like a sidewalk next to the hotel is actually a road, so each night a few cars would drive along between the eating area and the restaurant... More

The setting was idyllic, the service very attentive and friendly and the meal was extremely good. Very good value for the set meal. I recommend the Provencal stuffed vegetables as a starter. We were also given a little chilled soup before the starter, a fruit granite to clear the palate before the main course, and delicious petit fours and a... More
