Located in an old house in the port of Nice, L'Âne Rouge and its pretty little terrace are well known in Nice. The food is simple, based on fresh, local produce, yet is chic and refined at the same time. The menu is based around fish and shellfish, used to produce the imaginative dishes of Chef Michel Devillers. Try the courgette flower with sardines served with Riviera noodles; braised sea bass with fresh coconut or parfum of haddock and Chipencornet. Otherwise choose from the great fish of the day selection such as gilthead bream, red sea bream, sea bass, John Dory, all caught by Mr Gilbert the fisherman. As far as desserts go, the chocolate macoranade and the Bulgarian ice cream are irresistible.

Old Kid On the Block

L'Ane Rouge has been a culinary landmark in Nice for as long as we have been coming here (almost 4 decades) and serving up fine fare long before many of the new dining rooms in town expanded the playing field. We have been delighted at all the new options, but there is something to be said for... read more

The service was wonderful with a great atmosphere. The food is excellent with a lot of choice of fish and wine. Nothing wrong. I will come back this year !

This is a must restaurant. A local recommended it. Located on the harbor, we selected outside seating. We found service in most restaurants in Nice designed to be a dining experience, definitely not rushed. My husband had a beef dish and I would return for the Sea Bass, perfectly prepared.

We went for dinner and had two of the tasting menus. The gazpacho was tasty as was the lobster appetizer. Our main dishes were also excellent the chicken savory and the beef well cooked. The beef just needed a side dish as it only comes with some carrots. The dessert were fruit based( not my favorite) but were still very... More

We dined here will walking round the port, from the outside it does not look very different to other places in the road. However looks can be deceptive and we all ate of the plat du jour and had a very good meal

Found this place in a guidebook. Located in the harbour (great view), among lots and lots of other restaurants, this would probably not have been my first choice. But looks may decive and the food and service here is great! Quite expensive of course but well worth it. But skip the dessert: seafood is what they can cook (amazingly well!).... More

Perfectly prepared, inventive dishes. Friendly, welcoming, attentive staff. Excellent service. Nice, uncrowded outdoor seating with nice views of the marina. Extensive wine list; helpful sommelier. I described the type of wine I was looking for said I didn't want to go over €150/bottle; rather than picking me off, he recommended a €45/bottle local wine that was excellent. Welcoming to our... We decided to have lunch in this funny decorated place after our visit of Museum of Marc Chagall, but we had not imaged that the it was the Donkey from painting of Chagall . We took a set( the cheapest 26 Euro) but it was tasty very much! Highly recommend this restaurant!!!

This restaurant wasn't our first choice but entered upon seeing a board offering a set meal for around €25. Upon opening the menu, the cheapest set meal was around €38. The rest of the dishes were equally quite expensive, As was the wine! We are not particularly big eaters so opted for a chicken dish and a squid dish as... More

When we entered the restaurant we were first greeted by a heavy sigh from the sommelier. We ordered their Riviera menu which consisted of 5 dishes. Each dish took ages to come out and during this time we got no attention from the waiters. When the entrée finally came out, we found a happy larva crawling around in the sallad.... More
