Located in an old house in the port of Nice, L'Âne Rouge and its pretty little terrace are well known in Nice. The food is simple, based on fresh, local produce, yet is chic and refined at the same time. The menu is based around fish and shellfish, used to produce the imaginative dishes of Chef Michel Devillers. Try the courgette flower with sardines served with Riviera noodles; braised sea bass with fresh coconut or parfum of haddock and Chipencornet. Otherwise choose from the great fish of the day selection such as gilthead bream, red sea bream, sea bass, John Dory, all caught by Mr Gilbert the fisherman. As far as desserts go, the chocolate macoranade and the Bulgarian ice cream are irresistible.

Nice but not particularly memorable

Nice position at the port. We sat outside and saw many people being delivered to the door by taxi despite the strip of many restaurants in the area. Food was good but not particularly memorable for the price. Slow service which is to be expected in France. Better, more flavorful and inventive meal... read more

We went here and took the full menu. First of all, the service was rude and slow. We had all together 4 different waiters and they seemed more confused than professional. The food was not tasteful at all. Peasoup with mint without any taste of mint (let alone salt). Overcooked lamb and vegetables like they had been melted from the... More

It was recommended but a complete disaster. We were greeted by a senior waiter who disappeared immediately never to reappear. The young staff offered drinks and 45 mins later an amuse bouche arrived. 30 mins later we were pressed to order our wine although we had not been invited to order food. 30 mins after this I went to find... After resdingvreviews on Tripadvidor and in the Guide Muchelin we had high expectations for this restaurant. However it turned out a major disappointment. While the service was good, thr food was not. We took the catch of the day as a main course; ghe fish was cooked really dry and full of bones and scales. Definitly not worth going to... More

We had a lovely lunch here today. I had the menu Gormande while she had the asparagus starter and a wonderful soufflé for desert. We were started off with two rounds of amuse bouche, firstly two small baked pieces and a lovely mousse, followed by a vegetable velouté and a small mackerel mousse. I had the velouté of green peas... More

We never ate here but feel that we still need to rate the service. We were looking forward to eating here because of their rating and their menu on the website. We booked reservations before leaving on our vacation. Upon arriving we were informed that their menu had changed and what we were looking forward to was not available. They... More

...stunning food and wine. I was a little disappointed we had to serve our own wine - given the level of everything else in the restaurant - however, the overall experience was fabulous. Id go again, but do save for a special occasion, it's not cheap!!

Well known gastronomic restaurant on Port of Nice. At lunch time you can enjoy a gourmet menu for an affordable price. Food is tasty and delicate, a very pleasant french moment.

We came here last Friday as a couple. This is a fine dining restaurant. The waiters are young and rather serious. The starters a la carte did not offer me a different choice to seafood or foie gras. We took two menus. The food was well prepared and tasteful and the presentation good. The prices are at the upper medium... More

Situated overlooking the old harbour, this resto is listed in the Gault-Millau (one of the few such in Nice) but despite inventive dishes, including a pumpkin mousse starter laced with truffle, and dourade with a strong meat stew, very attentive staff and a big wine list, the prices overvalue it. 190 euro for two dishes each plus coffees and a...
