Located in an old house in the port of Nice, L'Âne Rouge and its pretty little terrace are well known in Nice. The food is simple, based on fresh, local produce, yet is chic and refined at the same time. The menu is based around fish and shellfish, used to produce the imaginative dishes of Chef Michel Devillers. Try the courgette flower with sardines served with Riviera noodles; braised sea bass with fresh coconut or parfum of haddock and Chipencornet. Otherwise choose from the great fish of the day selection such as gilthead bream, red sea bream, sea bass, John Dory, all caught by Mr Gilbert the fisherman. As far as desserts go, the chocolate macoranade and the Bulgarian ice cream are irresistible.

We never ate here but feel that we still need to rate the service. We were looking forward to eating here because of their rating and their menu on the website. We booked reservations before leaving on our vacation. Upon arriving we were informed that their menu had changed and what we were looking forward to was not available. They... More

...stunning food and wine. I was a little disappointed we had to serve our own wine - given the level of everything else in the restaurant - however, the overall experience was fabulous. Id go again, but do save for a special occasion, it's not cheap!!

Well known gastronomic restaurant on Port of Nice. At lunch time you can enjoy a gourmet menu for an affordable price. Food is tasty and delicate, a very pleasant french moment.

We came here last Friday as a couple. This is a fine dining restaurant. The waiters are young and rather serious. The starters a la carte did not offer me a different choice to seafood or foie gras. We took two menus. The food was well prepared and tasteful and the presentation good. The prices are at the upper medium... More

Situated overlooking the old harbour, this resto is listed in the Gault-Millau (one of the few such in Nice) but despite inventive dishes, including a pumpkin mousse starter laced with truffle, and dourade with a strong meat stew, very attentive staff and a big wine list, the prices overvalue it. 190 euro for two dishes each plus coffees and a... We went in a group and the restaurant was empty except for us. The staff were excellent, very attentive but for me it was expensive. The food was delicately crafted and definitely on the "fine dining" wavelength but it was quite fiddly and I think a few of us were still hungry. In the summer it might be different -... More

One of the best value for me. Excellent food, fresh products selected and cooked by the chef and owner Michel Deviller. Go for the set menu. 3 courses lunch plus wine and coffee for less the 35£ Diner different options for degustation. It is a proper chef as you would like to see more often. More and more restaurant are... More

If you are in Nice, and would like to taste some fresh fish-although there are may touristic places-try the" L'Anne Rouge" at the Nice port.Service is really young, fast, food is really good, and if the weather is good, seat outside, and enjoy. Fish or meat, even on the low priced "formule"is worth tasting. And,one of the best plates-the home made tarte de pommes. Bonne appetit
