Great even if you're not a cheese-lover (better if you are!)

Dined here while in Nice on recommendation of the BestOfNiceBlog. What a great choice! To begin, the wine list is a book -- literally -- with distinctive regional selections. Many pages show the photo of the vintner and briefly describe his/her philosophy of winemaking. We started with a mushroom... read more

Many pages show the photo of the vintner and briefly describe his/her philosophy of winemaking. We started with a mushroom pate sandwiched between brie, served atop lightly dressed greens. Heavenly! Probably because we were not familiar with the area, it took us a while to find this place. We were seated in the "cavern" area downstairs which was sort of like sitting in a wine cave. Our food was great and our service was even better. The owner, Gregoire, couldn't have been a better host.

I spent a week in Nice, and as an American who spent her childhood in France, I would say that I know what is good French cuisine. A lot of the restaurants in Nice are expensive tourist traps with crappy food, but not Le Bistro du Fromager. The original plan was to try out Oliviera, but as they were full,... More

What an interesting place to visit.. I had heard of this place years before I went, a cave of cheese.... The restaurant is in the old town, through the beautiful old streets. The restaurant itself is in the basement of the building, hence the cave, which I believe dates back 100+ years. The menu is of course cheese focused, our... More

If you enjoy cheese and wine this is the place. Cheese and wine in a cave. What's not to like? Staff is very accommodating and informative.

Wow, this place was such a treat. I might suggest wearing flats v. heels, for the nose-dive walk into an underground restaurant! how cool. We sat amongst wine bottles, and arched doorways. The service was attentive. The food was excellent. We shared several appetizers and split 1 entree - reasonably priced too. The wine by the glass was great too... More

This is an adorable, quaint little wine cellar type restaurant in the cellar. Very cool. On our first visit we shared the potatoes, cheese & charcuterie which was very good. Our friend had the risotto, which she enjoyed. They bake their own bread and it's delicious. They have an good wine list. The service was good, but a little slow.... More

Unpretentious, understated, great ambiance in the old cellars - this place is a must if you are a cheese lover and are in Nice. Professionally prepared and presented with seasonal choices, apparently the menu changes often. But the main star is cheese, cheese buffet anyone? Feast for body and senses. Well chosen wine to enhance the experience (just ask the... More

We stumbled upon this quaint restaurant one evening during our stay in Nice and were so impressed. The ambiance is so different, the servers attentive and very knowledgeable in food and wine pairing. Such a great surprise and plan on coming back again this summer when I return to Nice.
